Toyo released their new slick...the RS1....from what I have heard it lasts as long as the RA1, but with slick levels of grip.......prices are good too...almost $100 per tire less than Yoko
Has anyone tried them?

Pricing from Phil's tires, a large NASA track supplier. Yoke pricing from Bob Woodman:
Toyo Proxes RS1: Yokohama's(same size):
#163460 - 245/640R18 $367.20 $ 392.
#163450 - 285/680R18 $428.40 $ 529.
#171680 - 285/650R18 $367.20 $ 413.
#171440 - 335/710R18 $479.73 $ 540.
Toyo needs to include this tire in their contingency program with NASA/POC/PCA......
If anyone from Toyo is listening I'd be happy to test a set for you at a POC or NASA event like next weekend perhaps?.....

Guys how is availability for the toyos over there.
I am shopping from the UK, and Yokos / Toyos are out of stock with unknown delivery dates. Do they import them from Japan or they are made in USA?

I tested a set at Roebling a week or so ago on a 997 GT3 cup. Fairly consistent over several heat cycles. never had the extreme fall off even though we wore them down well over half the wear indicators. The rear tire didn't give great support. Gave up grip under load on entry and exit. Not very confidence inspiring for big entry speeds. I think the heavy loading of the rear of a cup car is too much for the tire. Was better with higher pressures (33) but still not great. Didn't have any sidewall issues or failures even though we tried to abuse them to see what the tires limits where. The bad thing was they felt more like an "R" compound tire than a slick. Did back to back comparison with a used but decent set of michelin's. The toyo was allmost 3 seconds a lap slower. (2.02 mile track) Not a bad tire but def not the fastest out there. We are hoping to try them again at CMP which should test the tires durability in the next few weeks.

According to Phil's Tires, even though they have the 18's in stock they can't sell them until May 30, the formal release date. You'll probably be able to find them near you sometime soon.....

AIM tire has them, but probably will have to wait for the May 30 date too......
3 seconds slower than Michelin.....so about the same as the Pirelli slick...since I know its slower than the Michelins or Yokos...

NASA just added them to the contingency for 2012, both Regional and National level.
$1200 Toyo bucks per weekend to 1st place, and $600 to 2nd place. Classes must have 5 or more participants.
3 secs slower than used Michelin at RRR? discouraging.

2-3 seconds difference between Toyo RS1 and Michelins is to be expected. The Michelins are also faster than the Hoosier radial slicks by 2 secs. The Michelin is a great tire, but for the money and the durability/longevity the Toyo is a great choice..
The Michelin set up for a 997 is $2200 ish if you know the right people. The Toyo's are less than $1600 and are readily available. Michelin isn't given you any contingency.....
Of course this is all relative according to the driver and a proper car set up.
