Geez. I feel like there is a big empty place in me today. CS and his cars have been a big part of my existence for a long long time. In high school there was a cool "older guy" who had a 289 Cobra. Thoughts of my ride in that car still raises the
hair on the back of my neck......
RIP, Mr. Shelby; a shining example to all of us to live life to the fullest and that it is possible to look the grim reaper in the eye and keep going..............

Today I took dads Ferrari to Zero to 60 garage, Saturday mornings a few of the local car guys gather to hang out and talk shop.
One of these locals brought his 289 Cobra - yes a 100% real with race history.
This is the exact car Bob Bondurant will be driving at Leguna Seca for the 50th anniversary race later this year.
This car is driven regularly by the current owner (of 30+ years) the way Shelby intended. I see this car every summer since he brings it to Road America all the time (and it's usually at zero to 60).
Felt special seeing it today.

Shelby lived a great life and leaves the wealth of experience and the rich legacy of a unique American car enthusiast. They don't make 'em like that any more.
I seriously wonder if the replica Cobra market will heat up as a nostalgia or "end of an era" reaction. I have to admit, I'm sorely tempted to get one just for the sake of learning to drive it.
While my two daughters have been raised on an undiluted diet of 911's, they both reacted favorably to seeing a Cobra parked out of the way and made the effort to walk to it and take a bit of a photo shoot with it and send me the pics with heavy hints about who'd get to be in the passenger seat and who'd be left on the sidewalk if I had one like it...
ps. Can you identify the 348 beside it, please?
