Formula 1 and racing World as a whole, lost one of the greatest ever to step into a racing car.
Gilles Villeneuve. January 18, 1950 – May 8, 1982
This is how I remember him, miss you Gilles. R.I.P.

You beat me to it! Nice post
He died 1 day before my 9th Birthday. I was watching TV and saw the live announcement of his death. I clearly remember shedding a tear. He was my hero, he was magic to me. Even though I was young, I still have those images in my head. The most spectacular one in my young eye was the rainy race at Mtl, when he had lost his front spoiler. The most spectacular picture is that one ^^^ in Long Beach!
R.I.P. Gilles!

That was today? I was living in Montreal at the time, a dental student at McGill. The whole country went into mourning.
I was also at the GP with the bent front wing. He went by where I was sitting and reached out and over the cockpit trying to pull it off! He was always spectacular, and his duels with Alan Jones at the circuit named for him were fantastic.

The latest MotorSport mag is dedicated to Gilles....fascinating to read how other drivers of the day felt about him.
