Default Tekonsha Prodigy RF brake controller-just installed

After spending a good part of the winter lull researching brake controller and installations for a Mercedes tow vehicle (European SUVs are documented PITA for trailer wiring), I was recommended to purchase a wireless unit from Tekonsha; the RF model.

Anyway, long story short, the unit is awesome, and if it weren't for my neglect of one small step in its setup, I would not have had to call their help line which is equally awesome.

I recommend the unit to anyone that wants to avoid the fuss hard wiring a controller into a truck. It also gives you the opportunity to tow the trailer with any other suitable vehicle that would not have a brake controller ( just bring the remote hand held unit into the new tow vehicle)

David,

I picked up a Prodigy 3 unit for my new Trailex. It's plug and play for my F150 as i have the factory installed towing package. The unit even came with an OEM harness included !
After some research,i opted for the Tekonsha product as well ...
Good choice

So,what kind of trailer will you be hauling ?

Cheers !
Phil

FWIW, my prodigy RF crapped out after 1 use. If it happens to you, you won't find out until Friday before you are loading the car and can't get it working. I still don't have it up and running, so no trailering for me recently.

That being said, when you get it working, it is pretty simple and conveniet to use.

Sure...
The most obvious, connect the power module to tow vehicle without the trailer connected into it. Easy enough. Even I got that right.

issue following is where I messed up...
Before pairing the remote, you must turn down the rotary **** all the way. Down, meaning, rolling the **** with you thumb downwards. Sounds obvious, but there are no indications on what is up or down. I had not done this and pairing the remote to the unit on the trailer was not done.

That's pretty much it. Again, Tekonsha's help line folks are very good.

Installed my first one about 6 months ago. Awesome unit. It also makes towing same trailer with any tow vehicle a non-issue. All the BC wiring nightmares go away.
