Default ATC V-nose - Weight distirbution & sway control - Aluminum Frame

Any recommendations on what weight distribution hitch with sway control will work for following situation:

Aluminum framed ATC trailer with V-nose front (hence can't mount on top of frame). Frame members are 7" high and 2" wide.

Thanks,
Mark

Maybe try calling ATC and see if they have a list of known wd hitches w/ sway control that will work.

Tried that and ATC advised to talk to one of their dealers. I am working that angle but wanted input from someone who has a set-up like this to get first hand user experience.

This one is considered the gold standard.

Unless I am missing something very obvious I don't see why it doesn't easily attach to the Vnose ATC?

Is the ATC V-Nose substantially different than the Thule V-Nose? I have the Reese "Straight Line System" on mine, been working great for over 6 years now..

I found what looks like a solution for my situation.

This is what I run on my ATC. Works wonderfully...

2002 Yukon XL 2500 8.1L 3.73
24' ATC Quest w/ lots of extras 3,700 - 3,900 empty
Car is 2,550 lbs
No helper springs
(suspension not as confident feeling as the autoride system in the 2001 Suburban LT 2500 8.1 4.10 I used to have)

Previous trailer 20' steel Haulmark. Came with weight distribution hitch and I was glad I had it when car was in the trailer.

Was looking for the added stability of weight distribution and possibly sway control. However installing standard mounting brackets is not as straight forwards as it would be if frame area was fully accessible 27-30" back from hitch ball.

I found that when I switched to real E load tires on my F250, the stability was much better then the D load tires it had on it when I bought it. The D loads let the trailer sway a bit side to side when a semi passed or I had to change lanes quickly, ect. My Duramax has G load now! LOL.

I'd check the tires as well on the 2500.

You may want to put some air springs to help out your rear suspension. Airlift and Firestone both make bags for your vehicle. They will work as well if not better than a distribution hitch. They also help when your load is not well balanced.

Bob,

Air bags/springs can't do what a weight distribution hitch does. They certainly help a sagging rear end, but the weight distribution hitch transfers some of the load to the front axle.

Anybody know how to attach the Equalizer mounting straps to the ATC trailer? The aluminum frame of the trailer is taller that the straps can bolt around.

They make different size mounts if you're talking about the Equal-I-zer hitch. I had to buy the longer ones when I upgraded to my ATC trailer from the CargoPro.
