Wow, RSRs weren't even close. Time for the 991 RSR.

Yeah, I was thinking that too. Almost 2 seconds off the pace is ridiculous.

I talked to Patrick Long on Thursday and he said strategy going into the race was was tire conservation. They knew they weren't going to have the pace but felt they had a chance to make their tires last longer than the others. Of course getting punted before start/finish changed everything ....

And how much do those RSRs cost? Compared to the Corvette?

Difficult to say. You can't buy a vette like this one.

The vette's are hand built by Pratt & Miller, Brighton MI. I would assume north of 1 million apiece.

Hmmm... I wonder what rules/specs/vehicle characteristics rendered the 911 "less competitive." The Corvette is not a Corvette, and I don't think the BMW is a BMW. But the 911 is a 911-- I got to see them being prepped at FLM weeks ago. But I did not ask Craig or Tommy from FLM if the car would be competitive, and if so under what circumstances.

Perhaps as the season unfolds, different rules/specs/vehicle characteristics will make different cars more competitive for different venues and types of races, and things will be interesting.

It's a stupid set of rules when a street based car races against 'creations' that are not street based cars.

Exactly! And the RSRs are the cheapest to buy and run by a good margin of all the GT2 cars (maybe the Lotus Evora can come close but have not been proven winners).
Most of the others are factory one-offs. Im not against that as long as the process to equalize performance works; but the likes of BMW have proven to be very wise opportunistic sandbaggers...

This has been BMW's M.O. since the late '70's. Make a car that they beg the sanctioning body to allow, run it for one season to "claim" some championship, and then disappear for a while. They did this not too long ago with the M3 with a V8 shoved in it. They told ALMS that they would be offering it as a customer car then reneged on the deal towards the middle to end of the season once they knew that had the championship sewn up.

Holy crap... I had no idea... Thanks.

Million dollar cars that can't even get the biggest race on the schedule televised...

How does the "Adjustment of Performance" work? Seems like a little air and weight adjustment could put the RSR right there.

On the 14th of March an IMSA bulletin allowed the Porsche -25 kgs (1220) and +0.3 mm (28.9) in the air restrictor. The Ferarri, BMW, and Corvette all stayed at the same weight (1245). The BMW and Corvette were also given larger restrictors, 29.4 and 29.2 respectively. The Ferarri stayed the same with 28.3.

FWIW Grand-Am just allowed the 4.0 GT3 cup engine in Rolex GT.

RSR 4.0 is much di$$erent, maybe they need a 4.2 now and certainly a bigger restrictor.
