How big of a muffler does a conventional PCA race car......
need to pass the 88dB sound limit of Lime Rock?
I know the race is unmuffled, but it would be nice to be able to do at least one event prior to it, especially since it is the closest track to me.......

I'm not sure how relevant it is for you with a 911, but for what it's worth, last fall, my 924S with a 4-1 headers, a Lindsey Racing exhaust, and Magnaflow muffler got black flagged pretty much instantly. Some guys were experimenting with various contraptions attached to their muffler tips to try and attenuate the noise, but I had only limited luck with that.
I've since replaced the entire exhaust system on my car, and I'm looking forward to driving at LR without constantly being afraid of the black flag

I once was black flagged at Limerock driving my GT3 with it's STOCK exhaust. Street legal to drive down the main street but not legal on the racetrack! Locals are completely insane!!!

Three Wheelin'
try putting a "muffler" on the intake as well
the BMW S14 has significant intake "noise" when an unrestricted CF intake is used, damping the sound waves from the intake lowered to overall sound wave signature
my 2 cents, don't always look to the exhaust if the intake is very "open" or unrestricted (compared to stock)
