Buying used A6's for track tires
Track buddy buys used A6's from SCCA racers and uses them for DE's. I don't think it's a good way to go. My guess is other lower cost track tires might give the same service as used A6's and last longer. Any thoughts? The car is a high HP car.

I would think they would be way too soft and get too hot for continuous lapping. High HP guys at our local PCA chapter auto-x events will spray water on them after each timed run to keep their temps in check.

I run A6's for qualifying all the time, great tire. I've also run them for races (25-40 min) and even an enduro (90 min) when the temps were below 70. As long as you keep them below 200, they work well.

IMO it depends on how they were run. If A6 or R6 are run for a LONG heat cycle, they will be trash, if they are run for several short ones without being overheated, they might be pretty good. I bought a set of "2" heat cycle R6's and they were absolutely terrible. Worse than street tires. I have some A6's that I bought new though that were I to sell them (with 7, 3-4 lap heat cycles in the high 1:20's at Road Atlanta) I was still able to get faster at the end of the weekend on a pretty heavy high hp car.
I'm going to run them again in two weeks (they have been wrapped in plastic bags in my basement since I ran them) and would bet money they are still capable of going significantly faster than I drove them, still.
Don't buy into the 2-3 heat cycle business without asking what kind of heat cycles they were. And since it's winter, make sure to ask how they were stored. Hoosiers harden and can be worthless after sitting in a cold garage all winter.

A friend buys these with great success.....many corvette guys pushing big HP get great results out of A6's....
I recently bought a BUNCH of Pirelli slicks in 275/645-18 for $25 per tire.... GT3 cup series guys used them for 1 practice and dump them.... I LOVE THEM....saved me 3 seconds per lap!! The also use a 305-650 or 680 in the rear too

My suggestion (and what I now do) is find a reputable local racer and work out a deal to buy their takeoffs. From my experiences they're willing to sell cheap and you get consistent product.
