If the car breaks, you don't have it towed home.
Either someone helps out by putting it on their trailer and they drive home, or you have it towed nearby to where it can be fixed. Or, you leave it in the paddock and come back yourself with a trailer the next day.

That and don't forget the universal law of mechanics:

If it moves and shouldn't use duct tape, if it doesn't move and should use WD40.

No one's said zip ties? And also some wire for when you need to hold up an exhaust... zip ties will melt.

For my 944, I carry a bunch of sensors - tps, afm, temp sensor, etc.

What I've let people borrow or take at the track: misc nuts and bolts, sheet metal screws, prybar, drill bits, propane torch, hammer.

I also like things like: magnetic pickup tool, latex gloves, hand cleaner wipes, poncho, umbrella and a foam pad for extended kneeling/lying down.

I also agree with the comment, just bring what you're prepared to change. If I go to the track that's only an hour away for a 1 day DE, I don't bring much. If I go on a long trip to Canada for a race weekend, I bring a lot more.

Magnetic pickups--great idea!

I keep a down vest in my track kit. Some of the coldest winter days I remember were in August at Watkins Glen.

+1. Get the AAA Premier, 1 - 200 mile tow and 2 - 100 mile tows are included. Had to have the car towed after a coolant hose blew, the 85 mile tow would have cost about $350 with just the basic AAA tow coverage.

$$$$ and a good cigar or two, small jar of olives. That ($$$$) should get you what you really need, (to drive) and the (smokes) will help to get you thru the downtime/withdraw/temp. depression while you are waiting (for parts/help,etc.). The olives will help almost any problem, (temporarily) when properly applied.
