At the risk of getting the usual Brazillian, Landing Strip, etc comments, I'm going to ask anyway: does anyone know of any shops in the Austin/San Antonio/Houston area that shave tires? I have some brand new RA1s that I need to get shaved. TIA...

Call MSR Houston, I thought there was a shop there that could do it. Could be wrong. Or, run them full tread. A couple of sessions and they'll be ready for prime time.

Or, do it yourself!

So far, I've found no one in Austin or Houston who shave tires (and I did check with MSR Houston - thanks VR). I did find two leads in Dallas and San Antonio. Any comments on these? Any other leads?

They use to do them on tires purchased from them, not sure if they still do or not, or if they would be willing to do your tires. Not the fastest, not the greatest shave either, which is why I haven't used them in years. But it might work for you if they still do them.

I used Hayes last year to shave a set of R888s for my SPB. $25/tire and a 24 hour turnaround. Need to have them mounted on wheels. Great service. I'd use them again. No affiliation.
