You don't need a Porsche to go racing
No doubt, for pure racing, you can't beat Miata and SRF. SRF is cheaper in the long run, but Miata gets you into NASA or SCCA races while SRF is just SCCA.

Also, anyone who does not hang out at the track has trouble believing that a Miata is a good race car. So the stud factor definitely takes a beating.

SRF can race in NASA although many of those cars are actually the Renault powered cars. Only downside is that it's a catchall class for sports racer cars. You might have run against some guy in a Tiga S2000....

Yeah, I looked into it. I have lots of friends in NASA and thought I might try it. But as you point out, you could be racing against a Daytona Prototype. With my race time limited as it is, I just can't justify a throw-away weekend.

For a Spec series, I think SRF is much better than Miata. I have no proof, but I would guess the cheating and "arms race" is much smaller in SRF.

From what I've read I'd have to agree. I think one region messed around with sealed miata engines for a bit (San Fran IIRC) but otherwise there is not a lot of tech in SM. That being the case, the racing is still extremely close.

Seeing the SRF dyno curves so close is great. Saw a race this fall an those guys were having a blast.

Quick Reply: Spec means spec. Dyno graph.
