Rumor mill is saying he crashed it so he can cash in on the insurance to pay the taxes he owes on it (and have some left over).

gotta love some of the comments.

"He went from driving a truck to driving a Lambo. That's like weening a baby off of breast milk and straight to scotch"

And how exactly is he going to be able to do that by crashing it?

Ever driven one of those? Honestly, if you've never driven something like that, its really easy to wreck it. The throttle response is instantaneous. Sure, he was 'only going 40'...until he touched the gas pedal.... Happens a lot unfortunately.

Anyone but us tire geeks notice the snow on the ground? Those Pirellis would have been hockey pucks.

As per the rules of the raffle, winner pays the tax, but this last one for the 991 also included a $25,000 cash prize in addition to the car. That should cover most taxes I would think.

Thanks for the info. Did the winner have to pay tax on the $25K too?

I gotta believe the tax is on the entire winning value, so I'd assume it includes the $25k. Fed/State is going to take everything they can get.

Hey Kush,

From the account I read, sounds like about $20k -30k (depending on undercarriage/suspension damage - if any) repairs. Car left the pavement and ended up 75' off road in a field. The guy should have won a jeep.

Apparently this guy says he hit some black ice as he was giving friends and family rides, spun and ended up hitting a fence post. Damage to front splitter/spoiler, some stuff under the car, but nothing major.

The irony is that along with the car, he won $5000 worth of "driving lessons". Now the car goes to Las Vegas for repairs and he says he'll sell it afterwards, pay bills and buy his wife a new car. Saw wifey on TV news and momma didn't look too happy with the world wide attention this brought to them...
