Mercer is now cruising with a comfortable 34 lap (say an hour) margin with about 3.5 hours to go

Final report is here:

http://myemail.constantcontact.com/M...id=ysbpjBcwOWk

Congrats also to Neal Agran ("KLR" on R-list) for finishing second in E3, the largest, and most competitive class there. In his first stint, Neal moved the team from 7th to third place, and then from 3rd to 2nd place in his second stint.

Miatas and MX-5's really dominated the podiums, but a 911 did win overall, for the 3rd straight year. Over 2,000 miles, averaging over 101MPH!

Edit: Neal was E3 (Doh!) - thanks DP!

Hey Doc - I don't think Neal was in the 2nd place E2 car, but I was! It was an AMG MX5 Cup car. We woulda shoulda coulda won, if it weren't for a wheel bearing failure around hour 20.

Neal was in a HooverSpeed Miata with me and we took 2nd in E3. This weekend was the first time meeting Neal and we made a good team.

Just want to say thanks to all the other drivers and crew- it was fun racing in traffic with dp35 in the middle of the night!

this is such a great event- and for people that haven't been before you really need to look into it. nothing like divebombing a bmw at 2am in pitch black

I couldn't make it this year... the daytime weather looked great. I am sure it was pretty cold at night, but that beats rain.

The Mercer/Flying Lizards effort is like having a gun at a knife fight. But I know that those guys just love the whole experience. They really get into it.

For all of you that were there, I am sure you have or will thank NASA as appropriate. Especially the safety workers and the folks in timing and scoring. CJ: I am sure you will recall that the head of timing and scoring is closely related to the manager of one of your professional sports competitors... the team in Tampa. She and her 25 hour team entered the 25 hour race three times, with overall finishes of 2, 1 and 2. Of course in a 911.

Congrats to all who took part, I wish I was there to share in the fun. I followed the race via racemonitor on my iPad - what a great app. It's amazing how technology changes things so quickly (and in this case, for the better).

What a great event. RSR ran two MINI's that normally run in Grand Am. Needless to say 25 hrs is a far cry from a 2.5 hr Grand Am sprint race. New engine into one of the MINI's and a Tranny change (at 3 am) in the car I drove, the 195. Crongrats to the great finishes by CJ and Neal, I think dp35 and I have the same "couda woulda" but that is racing. 37th O.A. is at least a finish, not sure how we did in the ES class but I felt outgunned from the get go. Our fast lap was a 2:00.? so that ain't too shabby.

Props to TruSpeed, they also ran well with a great finish.

Not sure if the others here saw the fire in the wee hours of Sunday on the outside of T2. That is something I will not soon forget, glad the driver was out and safe.

I hate to be a *****, but since you mentioned the TruSpeed Porsche - they had a driver (hopefully just one) that did not belong on a racetrack, especially in that sort of car. I had to pass the car 2-3 times, and I was driving a Mazda MX5 Cup car with a 2:01 best lap. It was not a very safe situation.

Sometimes money's better spent on coaching.

We had an absolute blast in our budget E30. We had almost no issues... only thing was a miata spinning in front of us around midnight. Could not avoid it and took some front end damage. Two years in a row we've made it to the end without coming behind the wall for anything mechanical. Not bad for a chassis with over 300K miles on it, and probably one of the only street registered cars there.

Great meeting all the awesome people around us, and putting faces to more rennlister names. Beyond the wind the weather was awesome. Already planning another run for next year!

It's funny seeing photos of the cars we drove. Schwank, although your car was not the fastest (nor was mine) I can say you guys were very good about letting faster cars through. Thanks and very smart driving

dp35, I asked Rob at TruSpeed if they were having tranny issues beacuse the car was going so slow in some parts of the track. I like a lot of people were all over him (and almost into his rear bumper) and passed him 2 times in one stint. Rob said he was new to this, I hope he learned a lot, I sure he was freaking out.

A dude in the Ford GT was a mess too, not sure if you were on track with him, he almost took me out twice! Wonder what the guys in the Mercer Porsche were thinking, they were very "polite" in their passing.
