But who's counting...
More concerned with NASA classification as with PBOC it's more how Bob V feels that w/e ( i jumped 2 clases from one race to another without maing any changes to my car) plus very often you have don't have a quorum in each class so you end up racing the field.

David,
100% correct on your point above. It all depends on how BV and his guys feel when you pull into tech line.
Good luck with all the conversions.
Hope to see you on track after the new year!!

Nice job, JR set the bar very high for 996 Weight Reductions.

I have 188 lbs to loose in my car but its all expensive weight like you and JR described.

Dash
Wiring Harness
CF Doors
Headlights
blah bla $$$$$

You mean he set the bar very low for weight reductions- about 2400 and change low.

There's another 99' out here that weighs 75 lbs. less than mine with it's wiring harness intact. He'll be out this coming weekend racing with us at WSIR. Beautiful CF dash, CF body panels, with just a AIM dash but still that's a lot less weight than mine.....

Gut the doors you have. Saves a lot of weight. The 997 we turned into a race car when was all done door was down to 22 lbs a side (still more than CF, but not much) down from IIRC 78 lbs. The cost to do this was about $25. $16 was for the 2 944 door handles (same as Cupcar but less $$ getting from dealer), the other $$ was for a couple cans of spray paint.

Also remove the fans from the radiators. Allows more airflow (at speed the fans restrict air). Saves about 10 lbs a side.

See you have saved 120+ lbs and spent virtually nothing.

There is a weight thread over on 6Speed with a Turbo race car that has gone through a weight transformation. All the weight savings are documented.

Mine is now 2855 with 7 gallons and no driver thanks to me just randomly taking stuff out, Mooty selling me his gutted doors (didn't want to gut my own) and Goldcrest Motorsports taking out the sunroof, AC and a bunch more stuff.

Of course I'm 225 (and not getting skinnier).

Could use 150 more lbs out though. Any tips from that 996?
