Pffttt. Just put a Vette motor (and a lift kit) in a 944...

My buddy has a C6Z06 built out by Danny Popp, it's ridiculous fast. Fun car, just not my cup of tea.

My experience

I saw one RACE vette blow up on track & oiled it pretty bad too then caught fire but it was a dry sump C5?.....however I hear about LOTS of LS engined cars that blew up.....typically NOT LS6's....but early LS7's (2006 Z06) and any LS1 or LS2.... Classic oil starvation is the cause or an over optimistic tune (HUGE PROBLEM for owners looking for bragging rights).....

Nothing an accusump can't fix....

the 'tune' on the engine has nothing to do with oil starvation. oil starvation has to do with G loading, oil pan baffling/pickup issues, and drainback from the valvetrain/cylinder heads.

as was stated, early C6 Z06 had problems with the dry sump system, which GM fixed. C5 Z06 seem to be very reliable. some C6 LSx motors (non Z06) have some starvation issues. the fixes for these are well known, and not particularly difficult or expensive.

many of the LSx Corvette variants require cooling upgrades in order to run the longer run sessions at full chat in hotter climates. also well known fixes.

I haven't seen too many blown up LS1's. The oiling issues are more the LS2's and 3's and early LS7's. Fixes are out there, which are cheap. Adding an oil cooler to a vette for track work is a must. There's a 50 degree differential in oil temps between my car with an oil cooler and my friends C5 Z06 without one on a hot day.

I've seen plenty of blown 911 motors at races and DE's and they cost WAY more to rebuild/replace compared to the LSx motors.

I'm not comparing the Corvettes and 911's, I was just surprised at how many issues the Corvettes had. I believe most of the failures were on C5's. It was just a track day so most of the cars were street/track cars, I would guess that many had power mods. I've shared the track with several fully prepped Corvettes that were very fast and reliable.

Or just get a GS manual coupe... cooling upgrades, dry sump, diff coolers, all the goodies, and enough grip to make a 440hp car drive like a Spec Miata.

I just put a crate CTSV LS6 in my 951 (after blowing up two turbo motors in two years). We added an Accusump to avoid starvation issues.

My "daydream" car is a 944/968 with an LS, full interior, street car. The problem is, it takes either: (a) a lot of time and skill, or (b) a lot of money. And I'm 0 for 3.

How are you dealing with the power brake issue? I hear that the Porsche power brake system doesn't fit with a V8.

Or you just buy my car when I'm tired of it. I've got it built as a street/time trial track car, so basically a full interior, rollbar, A/C, stereo, cruise control, etc.

For brakes you can either run a dual master cylinder manual setup, like a wilwood or tilton, or you can run a hydroboosted setup from a BMW or a Ford. I have the Ford hydroboosted setup and it works and feels great.

I can attest that an accusump doesn't solve all starvation issues.

After spinning a #2 bearing on a 944 N/A we put an accusump and a small oil cooler on the rebuild.
2 races later -- Spun #2 again -- this time very catastropically.

Pan was baffled as well -- now its ventilated.

Our Chumps team just bought another 944 N/A -- it just finished 25 hours at NL
a month ago. We pulled the bearings on it -- and #2 was wearing down.
It had a baffled pan as well but no accusump.

We put a crankscraper on it and new bearings.

On the #1 car we plan to run, baffle,
crank scraper and cross drilled crank. Then add big **** oil cooler.
We'll take our penalty laps
just to make sure we can circle the track

I put the accusump on the LS6. A 951 motor should have a dry sump!

+1 here to crankscraper plus large oil cooler and accusump (924 2.0L motor - blew a few before scraper and 'sump)...

You may argue that any mod that keeps a 944 engine together is a safety enhancement for all the other cars!

Friends' C6 Z06 BLEW THE ENGINE at 155 entering a turn and nearly destroyed him and the car.....OMG the video was incredible. If he had no HANS he'd be dead.
