If I was involved in a bad crash, I sure as hell would want me to stop...
That being said, I realize it's obviously problematic (to stop) and it should not be recommended (for anyone).

I've wondered this too. I'm a surgeon with a lot of trauma surgery experience. Before that I was a paramedic for a huge 911 system. I know my way around a big crash scene. And I know how to take advantage of those precious first few minutes you are referring to, Dwane.

Jack, please do not forget to pull over if my car looks like a pretzel...

That's one of the problems with SP. I love the track, but there's too many dirt berms that are "protected" by so-called tire walls. Instead of protecting the car, the car usually drives over the tire wall, gets up in the air and ends up on it's roof.
On of the starts in 2009 (Red Group, Sprint 2), there was car-to-car contact in T9 and one of the cars went off (driver's left) and ended up on it's roof. Contact happened right in front of me and I saw the car rolling in my rearview mirror.

If they paved it it wouldn't be a turn any more would it ? You want it to be like turn one at the Glen ? Aint gonna happen.

Almost got to the flagstation!
I think that correct protocol is not to stop. But, if I were to arrive on an incident that is far from any help I think I would pull off past the wreck and try to get to the guy.

If you feel the need to be a hero at the scene of a track wreck, maybe you should spend the weekend with the ambulance hoping to get your chance.
There's a protocol about all this for a reason, isn't there?

I agree, if you feel the need to offer your services do it off the track. Last thing needed is a bunch of guys jumping out of their cars and running around out there.
