Default Need advice on seats

Anyone using factory OE sport seats on the track--DE's ?

Are you happy with the support on the track--with factory belts?

The sport seats I am considering are the late 944/964 OE sport seats.

Thanks,
Jim

I am not familiar with those seats, but if they don't allow for proper use of 6 point harnesses, I don't think they are good choices fo the track. Compare prices with race seats. You may be surprised that you can get a great fitting race seat for the same or less money. Good luck.

Most people at DEs use the stock seats in thier cars. After you have attended a few events you may begin modifying your car. But before you do look over cars similar to yours to see what others have done. I would not change anything in a stock car unless I am making a primarily track car. Any mod you make to a daily driver to improve traceability will effect comfort on the street. My $0.02.

i use the stock sport seats in my 2001 C2..they work fairly well, but the 3-point belt was forcing me to hold myself in place too much, so I got a CG Lock for the belt and it has made a huge improvement.

Thanks guys.

I should have provided a little more background. I have been attending track events (none racing) for around ten years. My last car (78sc) had harnesses, srd's & a roll bar.

I have not tracked my C2 yet and I am considering what direction to head with seats. I really want to keep the car stock--that is why I am leaning towards OE sport seats.

I was curious if the OE sport seats compare to a Recaro srd as far as support on the track ???

BTW--I have been down the "slippery slope" and it was a fun ride I am at the point now where track times are not important. Driving the car with my kids as passengers is my main focus and DE's are next in line.

The factory sport seats that were available when the 964 and 944T were new do provide good support for spirited street driving. Same contours as the seats that were standard in the RSA. For DE use, the Recaro Speed (formerly the SRD) would be a better choice. They were available from Recaro with a cut out for the anti sub belts. Sparco makes some nice sport seats but you would have to have an upholstery shop do it.

I had OEM sport seats in my 89 911 when i started doing DE's and i found i was hanging on to the streering wheel and using my left knee as leverage on the door panel to stay planted in the seat.

This Summer i installed some Sparco EVO's along with Schroth six point harnesses and a roll bar and it makes a world of difference in my opinion !
You have to remember that there is no power steering on 911's until the 964 came out ...
They are also very comfortable for street driving !

Cheers !

I had exactly the same experience with the 993 models as well. They're probably better than the non-sports versions but they're still essentially road seats.

For what it's worth, the Recaro Speeds are coming out of my car and proper race seats are going in.

They don't give me the support I need any longer (even with 6pt harness), and I need more seat. These are great up to a point though, and very comfortable until you get there.

Jim,

I know that ...
It's just another reason to have good seats in a 911
You guys have all the luxuries ... lol
Track buddy of mine has reclinable Recaros in his 92 and he's very happy with them !

Cheers !
Phil
