Default Race Studio 2 Question

We had a pro at the track when we were looking at some Aim Solo data and he was hitting some key and selecting two points on the speed graph and it would give him the time between the selected points. Does anyone know what the key was? Have any other good RS2 hints?

There's the "delta" function which will show IIRC both that and the speed difference... for multiple laps if needed. I'm guessing he was using a hotkey for that?

Yes! Playing with it, it is the delta funtion that he was using. Now if I can figure out the hotkey.

Oh, holding down "c" while selecting two places on the speed trace does it.

Thanks!!!!

I just figure out - it's actually the 'd' key. My laptop keyboard is a little screwy, so I thought it was the c. You hit "d" then select you first point, then your second point. Towards the top right it will give you the time and distance delta.

Matt,
Were you ever able to sync the video and data?

That part I've sucked at. I can't get it to sync in racerender. I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong. I can give you the video if you want. Shoot me your address and I'll send you a dvd of it.

The simplest sync technique is really simple:
Do this before you start logging data: Set the start/finish point in your logger to exactly match the start/finish line on the track. With that done, all you need to do is:
- Move the data to the exact start of the first lap
- Move the video to the exact point when you cross the s/f stripe
- Lock 'em!
This will typically get you within say 200msec of perfect sync. A little fine tuning and you're done.

Synching AIM data into anything is a real PITA - I trust you've massaged the data thoroughly to get the full run in there? I remember having to jump through many extensive hoops to get it to work...

I've tried doing that. The data starts out matching, but then gets all wacky. I'll have to try it some more and see if I can get it. I also had trouble becuase it was acting like the data and video were locked when they weren't. I would get the car to the s/f line and start moving the data, but it would change the video (this was before locking them).

The data goes in fine. What do you mean by massaging? I just exported it as the cvt file and then imported it. Racerender got all the data, but I trouble synching it.

Yep, that's yer problem right there, I'm thinking! Look at the actual data... I seem to recall AIM resets the time stamp at the beginning of each lap, whereas Racerender is looking for a rolling count/continuously incrementing time stamp... IIRC I ended up making my own, editing it in with Excel, then using the data.

It does reset at the beginning of each lap. I'll have to try and edit the Excel data and see if that makes it work.

MAtt,
Your AiM data should be rock solid - no slip. I'm swamped getting out of here for the SP race this weekend, but will come back t this next week.

Yeah, I'm sure it'll be fine once you overwrite the time column with a good time stamp. I should probably also point out that it (AIM) seems to duplicate the line for the lap, so you'll probably also want to delete those extra lines, or your data will incrementally get out of synch (though only by .020s/lap!)...

PITA...

I find the DL1 integration with RaceRender to be better... yet still not perfect. It doesn't pick up the lap markers automagically...
