First time track prep
i am running in my first Rennlist track day near Toronto on Thurs. Its a long day ie 30 mins track time per hour from 9-5. I have read lots of threads on tips etc. One question that still has me a bit uncertain. I have the Hankook v12's and usually run the recommend street tire pressures. I have read that I should keep them below 40 on the track. So should i just show up with my regular pressure and adjust accordingly or start lower ? I am a beginner so not sure the tire temps will make the slightest bit of difference
Just obsessing as i am a bit excited about the whole thing. Thanks for any advice!

If this helps, I run fast street tires on the track (Dunlop Direzza Star Spec), not R compounds, but pretty good.
On street tires, I shoot for 36/38 front rear HOT. Depending on the weather, that could mean 8-10 less PSI cold if you're really moving. I assume a 2 PSI drop between cool-down lap and measurement in the pits.
If temps are cool, and you're just getting started, you might try 36/38 less 4 PSI cold. Once you come off track, take a hot reading, and reduce pressure as necessary.
Have fun!

+964 on the hydration statement. Also, if you feel yourself having a really sloppy session, consider skipping one session. That's a lot of track time right out of the gate for a beginner, and I always found that when I was starting out, I would get really sloppy, and have the most issues/mistakes in the last session. I agree with matt on pressures, try that.

I'll be there, too. Have you been to Mosport, before?
I would suggest sun protection, something to sit on, and snacks that meet your normal dietary requirements. I find that it's really easy to feel off there if I'm not eating well. And don't overdo it on the coffee -- it's a long walk to the washroom!

Thanks all. It is a lot of driving and I will be cognizent of skipping a session if tired. Pontifex4, I have been to Mosport before but not on the big track. Look forward to meeting you and I will stay away from the coffee!

take it easy and be aware of yourself...if you start making mistakes or getting sloppy get off track and skip a session. Drink lots of water, no soda or coffee...and have tons of fun!

Just reporting back after my day. It was perfect; sunny and warm. I ran 6-30 min sessions with the green group over the day and really enjoyed it (had to fill up halfway through). Had a great instructor for a couple of sessions which was very helpful.
I ran 32/24 cold which seemed to work well (i stayed on the track) although one guy ran 38/44 cold (i think he reduced it after we spoke). In the last couple of sessions I took it easier and watched the other drivers more (as I had plenty of time as they passed me!!) and work on my line etc.
I was quite surprised by the grip and the speed these cars can carry through the corners. It was pretty addictive as we picked up the pace and I will be back for other events!
Thanks again for the suggestions.
