Tough Decision About Rennsport IV.....
I'm now first on the Group 7 wait list so I'm sure I'll get in. Unfortunately the POC, my main race group, is also racing that weekend at Buttonwillow and I'm tied for my GT3 class championship. Missing that weekend would almost certainly be handing my competition the championship which means a lot to me. I'm the defending champion from last year and repeating is hot in my blood....
Rennsport would be a blast to race against some great cars I never see like Jeff Gamroth's 993 RSR (also GT3). The historics/race car display will be pretty incredible and there'll be some significant drivers there like George Folmer.
The downside to Rennsport is the lack of actual track time (90 minutes total scheduled and that's before the yellow flags come out), you can't park trailers in the paddock (big rigs only) so you get placed with a big rig where you can drop your car , wheels, tools, etc. Also Group 7 will be a CF no doubt with this mix of super fast cars and super slow cars. I expect lots of offs as most drivers don't know the track, and finally everything about the weekend will be overpriced and crowded.
Tough call, I suspect I only have a day or so to make my decision. Advise?....

Tough call, but with all the issues you mentioned against RS, the paddock parking alone is worth two demerit points, I would be thinking about a championship. Good luck either way.

JR, I somehow infer that you've answered your own question. If your post is a decision tree, you already have.
Best of luck with your POC run.
But it would be fun to run with Gamroth....

It is not yet clear whether those of us with enclosed trailers will be in the main paddock at Laguna for RR IV. I suspect we will. Open trailers will not.
Many of us do not care about track time. To me, this is all about the party with a race attached. Likely the event will be recorded for later broadcast on SpeedTV.. I will confirm.
Quite a few people on the list for Group 7 are very familiar with the track, and I expect that folks will behave for the most part. But I do not think it will be an extremely competitive race for all drivers with such a mix.
Has your championship been hotly contested?
- Mike (I will be at RR IV driving in Group 7)

Just imagine the huge crowd that is going to be spectating at RS... That alone would be really cool. It's going to be a truly "historic" event right in your back yard... How can you miss it??

Are you a do-er or a voyeur? Go for the championship.
