Jeep Grand Cherokee Diesel

That's kind of the problem - they were about that new. People are asking too much of a premium for them these days. Same truck with V8 is 10K less. So unless you plan on putting a 100,000 miles on this truck you're still better off with a V8 given the current delta on price.
I looked at one new and really wanted one, but their availability was pretty bad. Funny, back then Jeep had crazy incentives to get them off the lot - nobody wanted a Diesel. Now they demand a premium!

That said, $30s is crazy but asking price is just that. Asking price.

They only offered it in the grand cherokee for 2 years (06/07 or 07/08 I can't remember for sure), but the little crd in the liberty may have been offered more years, I'm not sure on that.

The 07/08 were the only years with the diesel engine.

I've been reading up on the Toureg and the issues people have with them...plus every TDI Q7 or Toureg is very, very expensive that the Jeep is a bargain and just as reliable if not more.

My bad, I just looked at the quote above mine with a $30K asking price. For the low $20's, it does sound like a good deal. The early Touregs were definitely ones to avoid, but by the time the diesels came out, they were well sorted. Agreed you won't find one for the low 20's that's in any reasonable shape, though.

I bought a 2010 Treg TDi new a year ago. I have 24,000 miles on it and haven't been back to the dealer even once for any warranty issue. Perhaps the older Tregs are less reliable?

I own a GL 320 and really like these trucks but you have to do some hybrid research for reliability. These engines are also installed into Sprinter vans as well as ML and GL SUVs. I have not read too many things go bad with them. There is the old "I6 vs V6" debate that goes on in MB World and Benzorg forums. Peach Parts' sprinter diesel forum do not expose any big weakness in these engines. Mercedes have been running these engines since the early 2000s in Europe and it seems to be fine.
Will the Jeep bits hold up just as well? There are no bluetec/urea injection in these trucks so there is one less thing that will break or need to service. Low $20K is a great bargain for these engines. The Touraeg V10 diesel prices are in the low 30s with comparable mileage.

This is worth reading on the 4x4 2008 JGC diesel. Towing fuel milage impressive, and accounted for half of the 13000 mile test. Two 10 qts oil changes at about 6000 miles each - Amsoil and Mann filter.
