Larry,

I would be interested, and I think others would as well, if you could describe the differences between this 996 Cup and your RSA (which as maxed out) in terms of its driving characteristics - not simply power (that is obvioous). Your RSA was a street car and the Cup is not. We hear a lot about people maxing out their street cars w/mods. Can those modifications approach what a factory Cup car achieves?

Also BobS has said he thought the 996Cup was a lot easier to drive than his 964Cup. Any thoughts on that.

Obviously, if anyone is qualified to make these kinds of assessment, it is you.

Thanks in advance

John I think Larry would confirm that there is a huge difference between the 964cup and a well set up RSA. The RSA being WAY better. Think Springs and shocks.

There is a 996cup in my near future.

I do agree with Bob that a properly built "street car" can be as good or even better than a factory built racecar. Unfortunately it can be (and more often is) a lot worse. My RSA, suspension-wise, was better than a 964 Cup and though it gave away 250 lbs and ran on R's instead of slicks, in some corners it was actually faster than the 964 Cup. It also was nice to have a perfect copy of a factory cage. I was fortunate to get a car from a builder who really understood suspension geometries. The factory obviously does, and that is one of the things that makes a factory car so good. It has all of the right pieces and is setup properly, right out of the box.

As far as driving the 996 Cup, it really develops a lot of uniform grip, and when it slides, it is predictable, benign, and it recovers grip very quickly. I also feel that the PO had the right combination of ride height, alignment and shock settings as it was a winning car. My RSA was also quite benign, but with the super stiff springs it actually reacted faster than the 996 Cup, and the line between sliding and not was a lot sharper at the limit. The 996 Cup steering and brakes are fantastic, and have great feel, maybe the best that I have ever driven. The longer wheelbase makes the car feel more stable as well.

Frank, you remember seeing the car. It was Fernando Penas.

Dave, most of things in life are a relative thing. I'll buy you dinner if you crack a 57.2 at the Glen in one of those "easy to drive" Cup cars.

Larry, very glad to read your comments. I got worried for a little bit thinking the car would never smell the track again... For being your first time on a 996 Cup (I assume) you went absolutely nuts on it. It is VERY impressive driving.

Congratulations again. I know you guys have being talking to Mike Courtney, but let me know if you have any questions about the car.

Thanks a lot.

That was excellent driving. Smooth, nice and fast.

I did not think those Cup cars were near that good. I was wrong. It never looked skiddish at all.
