Default Uncomfortable Neck Restraint Device

The yoke on my 2 year old HANS is uncomfortable with the belts pulled down properly. I pulled the foam out of the socks that attach to the bottom of the yoke to find low grade packaging foam. The option is $100.00 set of "Gel Pads".
I made a few sets of pads from a foam used in the sports industry, which could be sold for a lot less than $100.00. Anyone else share this gripe?

Chris:
What discomfort are you experiencing? Is the device pushing on your collar bone causing a pressure point? They always welcome feedback so I would give them a call (888) 426-7999 and express your concerns.

That is because the belts are mounted too low. If you are using seat pad, put it and try it again. This should lower you in the car and make the HANS more comfortable. This is what I did in my race car.

Just to be clear, removing the lower seat pad and sitting on the shell is a receipt for increased stress on your spine. Consider at least cutting the foam pad in half and reinstalling it as having anything below you is better than nothing. We have all seen too many instances of cars getting up in the air and slamming back down (rollovers, offroading incidents, etc) and this padding is crucial for compression when the vehicle lands.

My seat pad is not tough enough to save my spine in any vertcal incident.

What I can't figure is why my HANS is so tight to slip on- I'm like a 16 1/2 neck and it's quite snug.
I note that when F1 drovers put them on they do so with one hand and quite easily.
Are they that much smaller or are their HANS custom made?

I changed the original thin foam pads on my Hans for the air filled ones that came out a few years later and find them to be much more comfortable. I got mine from a friend, didn't see them on the Hans site so maybe they don't make them anymore..

Unfortunately the one comfortable device is no longer on the market. If you can find a Defnder I would try it, as I really like mine.

F1 guys will have them custom made. As for yours... They do come in 3 sizes I believe to fit better on thicker necks. Mine goes on easy.

Just use a product you don't have to wear.

David:
Is the arms of the device rubbing your neck, or the pads. If the pads, try taking them off and repositioning them. At a 16.5" neck, you are right in the middle of the medium range. I have the same neck size as you and it's the pads on mine that rub my neck slightly when sliding it on.

I feel/think the same.
I'm a 17" neck and my 20L is also snug to slip on. I can't imagine fitting a 20M.

It's the arms not the pads. I assume I have a med but will haven to check.
May have to supersize if I do.

I have the exact same sized neck & same issue.
