Georg Plasa Dies in Coppa Carotti Hill Climb Accident
If you have ever seen Plasa BMW Judd in action it was a sight to behold , RIP Georg .....
German Hill Climb driver Georg Plasa, died shortly after 14.00 on July 10th 2011 during the Coppa Carotti Hill Climb.
The Coppa Carotti Hill Climb that goes from Rieti to the ski resort of Terminillo in the Italian Apennine mountains was held for the forty-eight time. Georg Plasa was driving his BMW 134 Judd when he crashed into the mountain shortly after the fourth bend. Immediate relief efforts to try to revive the driver didn’t help.
Georg Plasa was a very experienced hill climb driver and had many successes in his hill climbing carreer. The exact cause of the accident is still unknown, but officials suggest there might have been a technical error. The organizers suspended the race after the crash

Sad to read this. Hillclimbs can be very dangerous. Little to no runoff.
What an amazing sound in that video!! I liked some of the long still shots from outside. Really captured the ambiance that was seared open by that awesome sounding motor. The sped up shots from the inside...not so much.
RIP

Jclark... a good man is dead, stop being a dick
Looks like the A-pillar bar snapped clean off... doesnt look notched so maybe it wasnt welded correctly or ERW steel perhaps?

It looks like its a solid tube to the main hoop, yet it snapped clean where the reinforcement tube connected. Maybe someone with more of an engineering background can give a better informed opinion.

So just to be clear, RL rules only apply within US borders orr what? No need for name calling, just trying to understand the rules.

Georg Plasa is one of my all time favourites... I think mostly because even though he is clearly not budget limited in any way, he is still "a" guy with a dream, not a factory effort or a well established shop. He built what most consider to be the most well developed E36 in history, beyond even the factory GTR cars that BMW/PTG campaigned. His car is the car on the poster on my wall that inspires me to push further with my own, I cant believe he is gone.
The build photo of his car is taken directly from his website where he publicly documented his whole build in incredible detail... the amount of CNC creation on his car with full FEA analysis, wind tunnel time in the BMW tunnel, etc. is truly awe inspiring.
RIP and he will be missed.
