SP3 rules
I have an opportunity to buy a freshly rebuilt motor for my car. I am interested in building my car to either PCA stock class rules or more likely SP3. The motor in question has Mahle Pistons and Pauter rods, however the compression is stock and I believe the assembly weights are stock as well - would this move me into a GT class? Thanks.

From what I know, as long as you're within the hp limit of the class, you can have anything you want in there. I'd be more worried about that rear wing you're showing instead!

Definitley not allowed in stock. Look at the www.44cup.com for information on SC/SP3 rules and post your question there. My interpretation is that only stock or OE equivalent (e.g. Guard LSD) are allowed. I do not think that Mahle or Pauter fall in those categories.

Pistons are free given that they do not exceed 1mm (0.040”) oversize of the stock nominal bore size (either 100.0mm or 104.0mm, as appropriate for the vehicle) and the related piston compression ratio remains unchanged (S2 is 10.9:1, 944Turbo 8.0:1, and 968 is 11.0:1) and the weight of the piston assembly (Piston, pins, and clips) is no lighter than the stock piston assembly, +-4 grams tolerance for that vehicle, (710 grams for 944S2, 730 grams for 944 Turbo, and 704 grams for 968).

The only way they check is when they dyno the car. How would they know what pistons are in there? As long as it dynos within the allowed output, no one cares. Keep it under 210rwhp.
At least that's how I see it.

As long as displacement and compression ratio are within stock spec, and the chip is not changed to give you a higher max RPM or different fuel map, you should be good for PCA tech. That wing will not pass either NASA or PCA tech for SP3 class.

Beofre spending any money, always best to check with the sanctioning residing over the rules, in this case PCA.
My read of the SP3 rules, "Rear wing with a single plane may be added. The maximum wing height is 9” below the level horizontal line at the top of the roof.."
PCA doesnt use dynos and HP/TQ limits , but rather relies on inspections of parts. Think they do care what is inside the engine for SP3.

Thanks guys, as for the wing, I know it is illegal for all but GT, I have a stock S2 wing/hatch hanging in the garage. For DE though the wing gives me some reassuring stability in turn 2 at BIR which I enter at 110-120 mph, others do this just fine without the wing, but I almost spun last year at about 110 and it freaked me out, so I bought the wing.
