Default 3" (75mm) hubcentric spacers safe for track use?

Posted in 928 forum but I know most of you dont go anywhere near there.

Im upgrading to hooser a/r 6 tires (335/30/18 in rear and 275/40/17 in front) and having my 10 inch supercups widened to 12 to accommodate the new rubber. Trouble is the rears (285 for the moment) are almost rubbing on the inside so with another 2" Ill need a 75mm spacer. Im assuming this would simply act like an extension of the whel but Im not entirely sure how safe this would be for a track car with slicks or how hard it would be on the hubs/bearings?

Thanks in advance

75mm? Or did you mean 7.5mm?

With a 7.5mm spacer and matching lug bolts you're okay. The latter is key--you need to make sure there's enough tread biting into the wheel hub with the added thickness.

Anything above 10mm is rolling the dice in my book. I wouldn't street let alone track anything with that much spacer. 75 is just plain suicidal.

Oh, we ran 2" bolt ons way back when. Not sure I'd do it with today's maturity and knowledge............

But I've got memory flashback now of seeing at least one RSR in IMSA circa 1980 with 100mm studs and 2" spacers. Might even have photos somewhere, as that was about the time I was converting my first car into a widebody.

How is running a spacer any different than running a wheel with little offset/hub? You see wheels today with large center hubs, eliminating the fuch type large outer lip and making the outside flush, all the time. If properly installed I am not convinced the spacers are any different than these wheels you see on many many cars today.

Are you talking about OE setups that were made for the offset or just wheels made to change the offset without adaptors?

Quick update:

did some fender "trimming" and installed one of the spacers... I have had to go through 2 sets of these because 1 of the 2 spacers in each set did not fit the wheel correctly, the studs would go in 2/3 of the way then get stuck and not budge any further. Not sure if this is a manufacturing defect or what but Vertex Auto said they would take back the 2 that I did not use.

Here is the result of the left side, plenty of room for the 335s now

I remember reading about that RX7 video - I think he used the wrong diameter/thread lugnuts.

After you fix the rubbing issue, it'll eat wheel bearings.
