I can understand the rant if it the demands killed the deal, otherwise, who cares. It is politics as usual. I'm sure if it was a right leaning town, they'd ban union labor, make them design the track in the shape of a large cross or an aborted fetus and make every person show their proof of citizenship and NRA membership before allowing them into the facility...

I don't know what's SE of Austin, but if there is nothing "there" other than the track, I almost prefer to take public transit to get in and out of town. Having a car at Indy was a pain and taking the subway in and out of the race at Montreal is really easy and pain free.

Glad it's clear and we can move on. Did this delay any construction?

<ok I'm late - but here's the link to the article>

Big hurdle overcome..........

Austin City Council votes 5-2 to endorse the F1 race.

http://www.statesman.com/news/local/...e-1571390.html

There is very little East of the Airport.

Some residential, a land fill, some light industrial.

The toughest part is that there is not very much infrastructure out there.

With the exception of the little used Texas 130 Toll Road, the roads in an out of that
area are marginal at best, and there are virtually no hotels, restaurants, or any other
support for an event of this magnitude.

Once again, for all you Fox news watchers and corporate apologists: climate change is real and the greatest threat to our way of life (after ignorance). I applaud the Austin leadership for making sure this new venture has less impact than it would without these fairly minor changes.

By the way don't try the usual misinformation tactic. Check out this site first:

The payoff is in $$ or favors Teddy under the guise of "being green". The impact of this particular project is miniscule to the big picture. It's the biggest scam going right now. If you look at who is promoting the "green initiative" it's ironically big corps that are trying to cash in on this with the granola types in front of the cameras.

Don't be fooled so easily Teddy, always look at the money trail and you'll find your answers.

Payoffs received obviously.
I just noticed that Red McCombs is a founding partner in the track. He probably went down to the council and bitch-slapped them and threatened to pull all his UT donations out of Austin.

Thank's for the substantive arguments to refute my statements. Oh wait, there weren't any.
I hope you don't live on a coast like say LA or New York or many other places threatened by climate change.

Save the planet. Stop spewing hot air from your mouth & give up your Porsche. Oh, and please take your political/religious ideology to another forum.

Australian V8 Supercars will be coming to the Austin F1 circuit in 2013. Suck it, "global warming" religious zealots!
