Default in-car video Chasing the Dragon Hill Climb

We took the cup car to the SCCA Chasing the Dragon hill climb near Robinsville NC this past weekend. It was a blast! I have never been to a hill climb before so we figured we would give it a shot. It was a great weekend. The course is a road in a state park near the tail of the dragon. It's an old, very bumpy paved road with a lot of gravel/dust and very little run off. It was 2.4 miles long measured out on a gps with 1000ft of elevation climb from bottom to top.

The car did great on such an unfamiliar surface. The Hoosier slicks we used did extremely well and provided way more grip than we anticipated we would have on such a rough section of road. There were several purpose built hill climb cars along with a few formula and DSR cars running. The only other Porsche there was Rock Webb in his early 911 stock class racer. We did very well and managed to set a new course record while taking home the "king of the hill" ftd award.

Great run! What a cool road, LONG turns, no long straights (takes no skill). Hoosiers are great even before they reach temperature.

Did you change the suspension settings much? Looks like a pretty bumpy ride compared to what you're normally driving on with those heavy springs/stiff shocks.
Hillclimbs are a lot of fun although not without danger. Big events in Europe with some very fast cars.
Where did you finish on the day?

That's hilarious that you set a course record your first time running the event. I wonder how the other guys must felt...

Great job.

We raised the car and took a little camber out but that was it. Ran the same springs we used at Rd Atl. Left the sway bars set. The balance was really good. The road was terribly bumpy but we were getting faster from me driving the course better so we decided not to change the setup until we tightened up the loose nut behind the wheel. We also didn't have many runs to really test. the first time I saw the course was Friday evening. We did one drive up in the tow vehicle and then started timed runs in the race car Saturday morning. We did 7 runs total.

pretty cool, driven with respect for the edges of the road.
Nice video production, too.

Cory: Congrats on FTD -- great drive. I'd bet the other folks thought that was like bringing a gun to a knife fight!

It is official, we need to put you on some sort of medication....

Every time I watch that video and hear the gravel hitting the car, and remeber that you are on slicks, makes me almost look sideways at it waiting for the crash to happen. Must be a Southern thing (again...), or the water, or something....

I think I'll have to put the Friedman gang, and Travis too because he lost it a loooooong time ago, on some sort of rescue MENTAL med.....

If we brought a gun to a knife fight, then what would you call these?

Ha! I think it might be the heat and humidity down here in the south.

From the mountains of NC to the F1 circuit in Montreal, we have you covered
