Shifting to some carbon doors. Hadn't given much thought to Wing Mirrors. Wanted something lighter than stock motorised of course. What are the options?
I've found some generic products on various websites. Seems like there is a pretty big difference in price for what appears to be the same items....or am I missing something? I'm guessing that some of the Ebay stuff is 'c/f look' but then how much heavier would a plastic set be?

Where's a good 1 stop race shop for this type of stuff? I've looked at places like Pelican or Pegasus and they have some stuff, but not all.

Still in the '44? Ditch side mirrors entirely. Too much drag and weight.

At least in SCCA, we can run any mirrors we like. Wherever we like. So mine are INSIDE the car, out of the draft! I run the big 5-panel WINK mirror inside, and have two small spot mirrors inside the cage to help with the wide angles.

Mainly, though I just pedal harder and keep anyone from getting to my bumper.

I have the plastic SPA mirrors on my DSR - they're not really that heavy. If someone wanted to make 'em lighter, they'd ditch the F'in glass lenses and replace that with plastic. Not CF, IMO, I agree.

No need to hang extra crap out in the breeze if you don't need it.

Some seem to hate the convex interior mirrors but I rather like it. The wink is too damn big. Mine is from Longacre.

Longacre also makes a cage mounted convex spot mirror. I also have one of these on my driver's A pillar as it gives a greater field of vision than the stock wing mirror.

schwank, I tried one but my cage is built right against the A pillar and the angle of it is too much for the small adjustment range of the Longacre. I would like to see pics of your though as I may be missing something.

I have a convex mirror for my rear view and it takes some getting used to, but I now like it. As for the side view mirrors I had the Pegasus Spa ones but the mirror was to small, not enough vision. One more of the driver's side, such that you can see its lens. Obviously here we also have the stock side mirror, but this is at home, small track, aero not an issue.

I wish there was something like the Longacre convex mirror but only convex in side-to-side viewing. As they are now you get a great view around your periphery but you also get it up and down. That means you can see the bottom of your rear interior and the top of your roof but cars behind you are tiny.

Anyone know of such a mirror?

No external mirrors on my race car. I use the Longacre 17" convex and a circular convex mirror on my drivers side roll cage. I can see 90o out both sides of the car without moving my head.

Thanks for the pics guys. So these internal spot mirrors are sufficient? How much less vision would you guesstimate vs standard wing mirrors?

Noticeable reduction IMO - you get a flash of color, but not much chance to ID the car or be precise about location.

I find pedaling harder compensates for that... "whassa behind me, is not important!"

Vaughan thanks for the pics. I see that you are using the Longacre mount on the driver's side and that it points downward somewhat. I find the range of adjustment in the ball socket to be very limited. My cage seems to have more slope to it. That and it's tight fit to the A-pillar make it impossible to use the Longacre as you do.

I guess there has to be a compromise..... but I still hate convex mirrors.
