Looking for Wing ideas
I race an E36 M3 (widebody) in BMW CCA Club Racing. Last weekend my wing was destroyed and I need to figure out what to replace it with.
See: http://www.driversmeeting.com/pcarroll/albums/109/2483
I would like a high flat Crawford style wing preferably with the adjustable Gurney that slides in a slot from the end. a.k.a. Grand-Am style.
I have been running an APR wing until now. I also know about the Bimmerworld and Brooks wings. Before deciding, I am looking for other options. Thought I should look around the Porsche world for some ideas.
It would need to be around 67" long with uprights around 32"-35" spacing.
What do you think?

I'm getting one of these. They'll custom make them to your needs. Suggest you have a look into them as one of your options.

I might have a Crawford Grand-Am wing for sale but they are expensive,
Crawford Composites spec rear wing 72 inches wide with a maximum 0.750 inch wicker and 12-
inch long x 6-inch high endplates.

Makes a lot of the wings for the BMW GTS guys in the midwest.
I have one to install on an E46 and it is nicely made and priced right.

After the end of a race a team mate with an identical wing backed into my car hooking the two wings. They survived until he decided to pull out again. The wing bent almost vertical before it exploded. And it opened the composite trunk lid like a can-opener. So I can't fault the wing one bit.
I'm not unhappy with the GTC-300 wing. I won two National championships and came second last year with it.
I just figured before I replace it, I would revisit my options.
My only concern with the APR is the 15 degree variable profile is more than would be ideal for a BMW. I think it was designed for a Subaru which has a steeper rear window. So you end up running the center section flat and the outer section at 15 degrees which is a bit steep.
Even so, it seems to work extremely well. I get lots of down-force even in medium speed corners. I do lose some ground on longer straights. But this could be due to others' horsepower advantage too. My motor is strong but it is not a built motor. Stock compression with cams and an aftermarket DME.
I wonder how a high flat wing would compare? I assume it would make less drag at speed but would probably not produce as much down-force at medium speeds.
I have seen a couple of Brooks wings but the finish quality in person is not as good as what you see on the web. The ones I saw had substantial bubbling in the surfaces and the leading edge was not smooth at all - as if it was not molded but just vacuum bagged.
Lots of people are using the Bimmerworld wing. I hate to be conformist. The finish seems good too. Only thing I don't understand is why everybody has the Gurney attached to the lower surface instead of the top - partially defeating the benefit of the Gurney. I suppose one could drill it out and mount it correctly...

and well proven. You can also get it without the wicker bill attached.
If you MUST be non-conformist, you could also look at: http://www.kognitiondesign.com/
