Tire changing lube questions.
Last Fall I picked up a Hunter TC 3250 tire changer and it is in working condition. What tire lube should I use? I run autocross with Hoosier A6s and do not want them slipping on the wheel.

If you don't want the rotating on the rims clean the rims and tire bead area then use unscented Aqua-net hairspray as lube. Lit the tire sit a day before use and they will resist turning on the rims but still removable.

Only issue is you have to work somewhat fast to get the tire seated before the hairspray dries. The guys at the shop I use are fast so not an issue. If you're new to mounting tires, though, it could be.

Thanks for the help guys. I also did some googling and found that Windex also works well. Dries quick but prob not quicker than hair spray? I picked up a gal of the smurf stuff from Pep Boys yesterday, may save that for domestic tire use.

I've never had a problem using regular tire lube if you go light with it. No need to slobber it on - just a light coat works. That includes a lot of Formula Continental, FF, and GT2 tires. Plus all of my tires for my driver and 914 track car.

This really does not answer your question but a comment about tires slipping on the rim. I used to have that issue on the GT3 and even on the Miata but not near as much. I would find that when I would spin the wheels bad on the rim that the tire would get way out of balance. the shop I use now offers little balancing beads that the put on the inside of the tire and keeps it in balance no matter where the tire moves to. that is the best solution. I had tried, hair spray and all the stuff nothing worked for me.

This last weekend we noticed on a friends 2011 GT3 the tire hand walked abit on the rim. It had been pre marked, recently mounted "carefully". Anyway, it slipped. I had a severe slippage problem with my old 930. !! Just like the bikers. I use extra hold hairspray to mount. The shop doesn't feel gay about keeping the hairspray on the shelf.lol If you are at the track and it walks and effects balance you might be better off just removing all the weights .

you can have the tire shop balance the bare rim first. Tape down and mark these weights with an R . Balance the tire and mark the weights with an T and where they are in relation to the tire. If the tire moves move the T weights to the new location.
Hair spray is less work.
