Default 996 GT3 Track Exhaust Options to meet 103DB

OK, I know there are lots of setups but here's my case.

Have 04 Gt3 Stripper w/ straight headers and tips that don't pass TH or Infineon.

Options:Add elbows w/ Supertrapp 4" disks - Trying this now but dont have results of sound or HP/torque loss yet. Will be @ TH on May 22nd to find out.

Next step is to add some kind of muffler (ideally behind headers) Mooty has gone custom muffler route w/ mixed and melted results.

What else am I missing to try here without big $$ or HP loss?

Is Supertrapp going to choke me down big time on HP? Hope is can at least make sound for now so I can run events this summer @ TH and Infineon.

Thoughts welcomed. I know a few of you guys have been there. Obviously in So Cal it is not an issue for WS or Cal Speedway.

Thanks Guys.

eric, i think euro pipe or akropovich may have something.
but i will be running catless oem mufflers.

996flt6 runs fabspeed cat bypass with fabspeed mufflers. he passes sound everywhere, but then he is slow, rarely WOT lmao

I went through that dilemma on my 2.5L vintage 911 racer for my recent Laguna Seca race. I had a untested system built up using Hushpower mufflers (www.hushpower.com). It worked, and was cheap. Under full race conditions it was 94db, if I lifted near the sound booth it was 87db. I could tell it took away some low end, but it seemed fine after that. I ran a 1:44 and finished 5th overall, 1st in class out of 43 cars -even against all the Big Bore cars- Cobra's, Mustangs, Vettes, Cameros etc.

So needless to say it worked.
Here is a picture of the "Creative" custom exhaust- Not pretty, but it worked great. Total cost was around $450 and installed. A local Muffler shop had fun with it.
I bought the "shorties" from Jegs or Summit racing. I cant remember.

Nicely done Chad! With Laguna at 92 db and T-hill at 103 db it becomes difficult to create a sytem you can use for both tracks. The 103 at T-hill is easy, 90 degree elbows and Supertrapps will work there as you can adjust the sund by adding or removing plates. For Laguna I run stock mufflers which are heavy, no cats, and the Supertraps. I'm going to look into your Hushpower mufflers and see how heavy they are as I have Laguna in August.

Eric I know theSupertrapps will work for you at T-hill. Now you just need to create a bolt on muffler system you can add or remove as required....

The latest I've seen on GT3 Cups for LimeRock legal(88dB) is twin in line SpinTech mufflers for each bank. That's a total of 4 mufflers w/o the side mufflers, but it's supposed to be a low loss system

I've got a pic but promised not to post it. It's not pretty but it all gets hidden behind the bumper any way

2 in series for each side.

the mufflers are rectangular prisms one is flat the second is on edge, the other side is underneath but here the first is flat the second on edge. This way they can be jig-sawed to fit in the alloted space.

Thanks all for your replies,

Trying the Supertrapps first since I have elbows and they're cheap. Quickest way to get back on track for now.

Will look into these for a better solution long term.

Default Here's a few photos so it's not a worthless thread

Quick outing at Thunderhill before the sound police cut it short.

JRG has proved this point, now I have to learn to drive this thing to keep it going, then Mooty will be painting his car. Just need some track time. Thinking back on last PCA weekend that was my first time out w/ the car in NorCal I would have got 8 great sessions in w/ some good instruction and Time Trial laps.

Instead the score was 1 1/2 sessions before big black flag as I was just starting to feel it. Damn!

Looking REALLY forward to next track day out
