So yesterday the Mason County special use permit was approved and construction can begin on the new Ridge Motorsports Park in Shelton, WA. This facility is near the south end of the Puget sound and is just over 2 hours from Portland and even closer to Seattle.
The process has been going on for some time now, and the land is already cleared with a layout already prepared. With this decision construction will begin immediately with a full race schedule planned for 2012. This track is built by and for club racing on otherwise unusable land near an airport and the Washington State Police driver training facility. The closest house is ~2 miles away IIRC.
With the recent opening of ORP and enhancements in Portland and Spokane the Northwest now has half a dozen quality tracks for competition use. Quite a bit of variety and some great layouts.
Despite high gas prices and uncertain economies, it is still a great time to be a racer!

This is great to hear!
Looks like an interesting layout, with a variety of turn types. But it's hard to tell how big it will be. The website didn't give any specifics about that. I am hopeful that the track will be safe, and designed with more runout than Pacific Raceways.
Thanks for posting.
