Buy, what trophy? In the this age, I thought everyone gets a trophy for just showing up.

If I ever get to the stage where Hoosier make the difference between winning and losing, I'll get the more expensive tire. Until then, the hankooks are a great deal.

If Hoosier gives contingency, run Hoosiers. If they don't, run Hankooks. They are just as fast.

I have never run the C71, so I don't know for sure, but others who have suggest that is a valid parallel.

(softest) C91 - A6 - C71 - R6 - C51 - 710 - C31 (hardest) (in my opinion)

Can the C91 be run on a track for any length of time like the A6?

Very few Z214 sizes available in the C91 compound, right? I can't find nearly any available.

Default HANKOOK vs HOOSIER

I Have ran both sets of tires on the same track (Sebring) on the same day. The Hankooks were as sticky as the Hoosiers and last about 3-times longer. Last set of my $1400 Hoosiers went out of round and cost me an entire run session. This tread separation on the Hoosiers is becoming a serious issue and there were 9 (NINE) other cars at the Sebring event experiencing the same problem. The Hoosiers looked like they had a giant pineapple sized growth through the middle of the tread and sidewall. I'll take my .13 second slower lap for the $ 500 cost savings and waive to the guys pitting to change out their ****ty defective Hoosiers. BTW I won my class (GTS-3) at Winterfest and Homestead (NASA) on Hankooks C51.

At recent Clash at The Glen, I ran Hankook c51 that I used for the Lime Rock race as well as a few heat cycles at Summit Point last fall, so maybe 10 hc's all in. Swapped to sticker R6's for a short heat cycle prior to green sprint one. With R6's I found approx .25 for a 2:10.46 in Sp3 968. Pressures were good, but was looking for 1 sec faster then well heat cycled Hankook's. The extra $500 for Hoosiers just doesn't seem worth it anymore.

Default Z 214 VS Hoosier

The Z 214 C51 is an incredible value. When I ran them a few years back, they were on a par with Hoosiers...but $400 a set less expensive. I found the wear to be comparable to Hoosiers, 9 solid cycles, them they become practice tires....NOR the case with the Nitto NT-01 tires. I get 16 - 20 heat cycles on the rear, maybe 30 for the fronts....they are good right down to the cord.

I would run them now but I am in a Weight/HP class....for my HP (262 to the rear wheels), I am relegated to a DOT 100 or > tire. I choose Nitto NT-01 tires. They come with 6/32 of tread...and can be heat cycled by Discount Tire Direct. If you want enhanced performance from the NT-01 tires, have a local tire shaver take 2/32 off the tires. I am going to try this with my next set of NT-01 tires.

Hoosiers have had some tire failure horror stories circulating around....but have heard no stories about the Z 214 and NT-01 tires. It's NT-01 for me

Hankook has been a series sponsor for ITC and has proven to be as fast at Hoosiers, they do take a lap to come in. I like 36 hot They will last all of a PCA weekend if stickers used on the qualifying session. I wont go back to R6 but I am interested in testing the R7 when available.

Default Retraction.....

Back in 2011, I may have started this thread....my car was not set up right when I originally composed the post....since then I have re-done the suspension, and added a few other tricks. I'd drive the Z 214 C51 in a heartbeat, but it isn't possible in my weight/HP spec class. I am a bit cautious using Hoosiers right now after hearing some tire failure stories....but let it be known, in a perfect world, there are few things better tire grip wise, other than slicks, than "sticker" Hoosiers...maybe with one (1) heat cycle.

Re. the Z 214 rites, if you are a DE person, so what if they take a few corners to warm up....you are running a DE.

If you a racer, and you are running a qualifying session, warm up the tires for a few corners and then drop the hammer. They'll be as fast as Hoosiers, or nearly so, and about 30% less....they also don't make super wide tires in 18" as I recall, 275 being the widest.

I am now running Nitto NT-01 tires, cheap and pretty fast, wearing like iron, good down to the cord. On a 2 minute track, the Nittos could be a second, possibly 2 slower...car set up and driver dependent.

I started using them some time back at CMP, which is very, very hard on tires. Lap times are very close to the hoosier. The biggest advantage there is their longevity. Hoosiers would be 2 seconds off pace within one race while the Hankooks only off a second. I can run them 2 races at CMP without losing a great deal of time. Hoosiers are quicker definitely, but just didn't last the weekend without a major falloff. They def DO take longer to warm up and get sticky. Colder weather makes it worse.
