Default Advantages or Disadvantages of running front inner fender liner on 944

My 951 race car is almost finished and I am not sure whether to run the plastic front inner liner. This is a track only car with full race prep. Advantages? Disadvantages?

It will keep the airflow cleaner and less dirt and tire boogers from getting all over the inside of the fenders. Also protects the fuel and brake lines a bit more.

Downside is you can't see your fuel lines to check them, and extra weight. I don't think any of our local 944 Cup cars are running them.

For safety reasons, I would take it off. See self-explanatory photo...

My concern is that it might create more front lift without them. Is this a wrong assumption?

I don't have data on front lift forces with or without liner. I would only suspect that it is not significant - depending on speeds.

The photo I attached above is what happened when the liner eventually fell off the car i.e. the liner ended up under the tire, which caused a spin.

Plus you don't get all of those reverse dents in the tops of your fenders.

I had them out and in and noticed ZERO performanc difference. They do however help prevent rubber entering the air filter snorkle (I used to have to empty the air filter of rubber after a weekend racing)

I think having them in makes more sense.

Unless you vent the fender behind the wheel, yes its a large cause of drag. The wheel wheel creates are lot of turbulence, anything you can do to seal it up the better.

The early 944's never came with complete liners. they just have small 1/4 liner to cover the area in front fender where the air intake is.

My guess is that it was added for either noise reasons or keep crap out of hte back of the front qtr panels.

If you're ever gonna run in the rain, you'll want them.

According to the rule book I HAVE to keep them to run in IP1 (cacc rules)
