That is the preferred and recommended location, according to Steve Hoelscher of Race-Keeper. It doesn't matter if it's not level, as long as you load the calibration configuration utility on your SD card before installing. Instructions are available (as well as a training video, IIRC) on their website. Good luck!

I believe but need to re read the literature that you zero the accelerometers after its mounted.
I have to run wire for
power
2 cameras
tach
brake
gps ant.
the console gives pretty decent access for all the wires

The real key is how secure you can make it. Long term and short term. Long term you'll be pulling the SD card in and out. Short term if it's bouncing around you'll bugger up the accelerometer readings and contribute to their noise as well.

another option would be to mount it where the passenger a/b used to be, what issues arise from an off center location like that?
It would still be pretty tough to operate it if mounted there

Ergonomically I don't see any problem with the first spot and with a little bit of work I'm sure it would be a solid mount as well. I think my underlying thoughts are don't use a couple of self tapping screws and call it a day. Make it a good setup the first time. It sucks to redo data installations.

Can't answer for the OP, but it's the system in use at the PSDS (Porsche Sports Driving School) at Barber Motorsports Park and they've been very aggressive in adding new features and capabilities to the system, especially of late.
There are now four or five systems in that price range with similar capability, reliability, accuracy and ease of use. Three use multiple cameras, which is the way to go to not only see where the car is situated on the track, but to observe the drivers head and hands.
They're all good enough to be used to self-coach and it's just a matter of how well you like the interface. Then, it boils down to CAN interfaces on the new(er) cars that open many more possibilities...

That location would drive me nuts. With my 993TT I originally had the Batphone console. I could not get comfortable driving with my knee hitting the darn thing. Console lasted a week and then I was fine.
