Its time for me to buy new tires for the 928 Estate...I was running BFG R1's in 245/45-16 all around..but managed to flat spot and cord one front tire
..its a bummer since the rears look good...but they are almost a year old with over 30 heat cycles... While I was VERY happy with them...they could be a bit hard to catch at the limit..when they finally let go..they tended to let go rather sharp...
I am considering buying Hoosier R6, or Hankook Z214's in the same size....both the kooks and R6 cost quite a bit more..but I have heard good things about the Kooks lasting longer, like the R1's do....
Opinons on the comparison...... I heard R6's are great for about 1 weekend..then drop off.....R1's are slightly "slower" than the R6 but stay at that level for a long time.....I don't really know anyone running the kooks...
Thanks
Brian

THese Kumho V710 might fit the bill. Can:t say how they hold up or perform vs R6 or R1. Nitto NT01 are good, but not as soft as the V710.

If I remember rightly you are planning to run GTS with NASA ? or are you going to run one of the PRC classes ?
Irrespective you should check which tire companies are providing contingency in your classes.

There are some that say they can get the same or very similar timese out of the Nittos compared to the R6s...but I think this would be very subjective.
If longevity is more of a concern maybe give them a try. I have found them to be excellent and run very similar times to the Hoosiers...although on different days and perhaps with more track awareness when running on the Nittos.

Hoosier has a great contingency for NASA GTS classes...I'm trying to determine my "plans" for the car...GTS racing is an easy fit.... Assuming I can podium, free tires sure sounds great to me!!

If you are going to run GTS and can place 1st or 2nd you need to run the Hoosiers. If you are not a front runner, then consider the cheaper tire. The Hankook is as quick as the hoosier and will last longer before cycling out. I like the Hankook more, but no contingency is available.
If you are just doing DE's, why bother paying the premium for Hoosier or Hankooks, go with Nittos or Toyos and get the longevity and cheaper price.

Whiles its competitive in GTS2..it would get killed in GTS3....
I was quite happy with the BFG R1's I had.....didn't seem to cycle out, until I corded one from a flat spot under braking......

It is very possible!!! I heard from a an experienced racer friend that the Hankooks are super sticky..probably the fastest out there...but drop off after 8 cycles...OUCH....I had about 30 on my R1's..with my personal best lap time around 25 heat cycles!!

I have had the opposite experience with the Hankooks. I set the TTB track record at Barber on my 28th heat cycle. I always ran the medium compound, maybe your racer friend is running the soft compound?

I've used nothing but Hoosiers in the past tire, and in my opinion they are best. BUT!!!!!!!! If I were you, I think I would buy another set of R1's. They worked well for you, and if you carry the 3 good old ones with you, if you should cord another one, either front or rear, you have spares. you can drive on an old one with good tread even if it has 30 cycles. But you CAN'T drive on a corded tire, even for a couple of laps. Buying the same tire and using the old ones for spares could keep you going to finish a weekend.
