996 race tires???
Needing info for my future 996 track car.
1. What size tires did the 996 cup cars run?
2. For those with 996 track cars, not cup cars, what size tires are you able to fit under the fenders?
3. What size tires did the 996 RSRs run?

Mine is bigger than yours. LOL
275/315 here.
Cups and RSR's run different susp. and wheel tubs fyi - makes it a little different than a 996.

Viking - wheel tubs??? are you refering to the wider fenders and flares on the RSRs? You also appear to be running wider than the cup cars. And as we all know, if you are running Hoosiers, 275/305 is good for at least 285/325 in any other name brand.
My main concern are the fronts. Hard to believe the cups only run 245's. Are those Hoosier 245's by chance?

Cup cars and RSR's use a different rear subframe/different geometry. The wheel/tire actually goes higher up into the car/wheelwell area. They have modified wheel tubs (taller) for the wheel tire to go up without contact at the top of the wheel housing, make sense ?
I run a 275 front and a 315 rear Hoosier on a stock 996. I know, many people have told me that it can't be done and no way it will fit, but look at the car, it does when everything is just right.
For some driving styles I think the smaller tires will be faster, but for others the larger tire is faster.

On my GT3, running 11" rears, I've had better luck running 295s than 315s. And by better luck, I mean lower lap times and not more clearance Same when Pat Long drove my car. But, I am almost certain 315s would be better with a little wider rim - even 1/2 would probably do it.

I think the larger or smaller tire is really a driver and track dependent factor as to which is faster. On the high speed corner tracks give me the big tire.

Viking - thanks for the response, as usual great info to know. Impressive feat by the way, 275s up front that is. As I look at my stock front tires with minimal clearance and scratch my head. I do understand the geometry thing. Now I'm thinking maybe I shouldn't even bother with the RSR body.

Why the taller 275's up front (25.5") in lieu of the shorter 255's (24.8)? The 255's are even a tenth wider and put you closer to the ground with better wheel well clearance. I ran them with 315/35 rears without any issues when I ran R6's.....

The why is simple, we tested 3 different combos and the big tire was consistently faster with the current driver in the car. Maybe it's just a mental thing, but it seems to work for us.
