You won't at WG, SUMMIT, Road America, etc... Not sure about Mulsanne straight at lemans though Streak...

You forgot that Streak enters a straight much faster than the average drover
so his gearing needs are totally different.

+1

Forget what you know about terminal velocities, I am extraordinarily fast so it's time to think outside the box on this one.

So in Astroman Jack's example mounting 225 50 on 15 x 9" rear must not make any difference in spite of Hoosier specification for maximum wheel width of 8" ???

Hupfer knows what he's doing, obviously.
Mark runs the 225/50 on the rear because of the gearing. He feels the 225/45 is too short, though he does on occasion run a 275/35 A6 for qualifying. The 50 series tire is in between the other rear choices, and does offer a gearing advantage over the 245/45x15, 245/45x16, and 275/40x17.

I ran 225/45 front and rear on 7&8 x 15" Fuchs at Road America last year and you will not run out of gear. Here is some VIDEO.

Also, don't forget that Mark, Fred, myself, and others are driving 911SCs which have a higher rev limit than an 84-89 car. This may or may not be a hinderance at the tracks you run. My light is set at 6800 in the above video, but I regularly exceed that.

Here is a picture comparing a 245/40 x 17 on an 8" CCW to a 225/45 x 15 on an 8" Fuch.

Thanks Chris. I've never been to RA so it's hard to compare. The back straights at WG and VIR would be my frames of reference. Summit is too short to be an issue. At WG I'm in 5th soon after coming out of the esses so that may be a concern and at VIR that back straight, though you start it much slower than WG, is so long I'd be concerned there as well.

Any thoughts?

It's about 6000 in 5th at RA so no problem there.

The WG straight is mostly uphill, no? It looks like Fred hits about 6200 in 5th.

Can't help you with VIR, never been there. Is the straight there any longer than WG or RA?

Nice job, just watched it and saw that slight bobble he did out of the bus stop and KNEW you would take advantage... he was slower in a few spots actually.

I tested him the lap before... so that slight bobble was just the right sort of opening i needed. Then i had to block him for 1 full lap because he was faster down the straights as you saw. Then he blew up his clutch.

I saw that also, you have to really watch out for the outside guy to come in there because most cars have a blind spot right there DUE TO THE PASSENGER SEAT BLOCKING THEIR REAR QUARTER VIEW!
