That is the old penguin joke...

A penguin is having transmission problems so he takes the car into the shop. Goes out to get some ice cream while he waits, because it is a hot day.
He comes back to the shop and the tech says "You blew a seal".
Penguin replies "No, no. That is just ice cream."

He comes back to the shop and the tech says "Looks like you blew a seal".
Penguin wipes his mouth and says, "No, no. That is just ice cream."
Fixed that for ya...

I much prefer to tow with some margin given that may be tired on the drive home.
I think distance is also a major factor. I had an 20' x 8.5' enclosed for a short time. It was great towing to the local track 1-2 hours only and I loved the shelter it provided (had it for a couple major rainstorms). The problem was and I see in your comments is the that are much longer with a marginal tow vehicle for what you are towing. For my long hauls I would get 8 - 10 mpg. I have a 1/2 Silvy (run rear airbag springs instead of wdh - cheaper and about as effective). Truck did not have a problem towing it even though I was close to my limit (6,500 lbs) - just maintain speed with flat frontal area and always having to be in 3rd gear.

Thanks. Working from memory and on two things at once but I knew I could count on a DSR guy to make it right.

I use an 01 4.4 X5 with my 993 on a Trailex Open. Pleanty of power, very few downshifts, decent mileage and comfy too.

Hooking up the brake controller is quite a job. If anyone needs the secret, I can share, for a fee

I woudn't recommend loading up to 4500+ lbs on any 5000 lbs. capacity tow vehicle. Get a used 09 Treg with 3.0L TDI. It should to the job easily.

I use a 2008 Yukon XL Denali - loaded to the max, long wheelbase(VERY VERY Important) and 7900 lbs. tow capacity. My max is basically the same as yours ~4500 lbs. It pulls like a breeze and completely stress free.

There's an even easier method...trailer with surge brakes!
