Was SPEED a positive change from SpeedVision? We don't know that this will be positive, and we don't know that it will be bad. We'll just have to wait and see.

ABC basically uses ESPN's team and format. I do watch a lot of the NASCAR races and didn't realize how terrible the coverage was until I spent a little more time closely watching it. Super zooms, only focusing on a couple of drivers, pre scripted storylines...

I found this blog once and check in occasionally.... the NASCAR fans really HATE ESPN's coverage.

This can only be good - even if we don't like the commentators. More exposure means more sponsors, more money, more teams, more cars. Great alternative to stupid NASCAR.

And ESPN may give it disproportionate coverage during sportscenter like they do the NBA to boost their own ratings. Like maybe 5 seconds - which is better than none.

Ask team owners and their CFOs what they think...

I just spent 45 minutes talking to various CSRs from Time Warner Cable NY to try to get ESPN3.com set up with my Xbox Live account, but when I finally figured out I needed to go to espn3.com/activate for a code, I just got the following:

Please check back regularly for updates.
We apologize for any inconvenience and we thank you for your patience.
Hopefully they'll have it rolled out up by March...

I know it will be good for the teams and their sponsors, but I do not have the same positive feelings for the home viewers.

That NFL Films style docudrama nonsense is terrible. You know they are going to do it because the races are getting edited to 2 hours.

At least I get espn3.com

Myself and a bunch of others that are registered with americanlemans.com got an email with call in information for a conference call later today with Atherton , Pat Long, and others. I may listen in. Apparently only baltimore is going to be one of those documentary shows like they had last year.

My issue is that I spend way too much time in front of the computer as it is, and enjoy sitting back and watching racing on my 60" HD TV, not on my 15" laptop. So in order for me to watch on TV, I now have to see it tape delayed? Nothing Live on TV?

Also: 12 hours of Sebring condensed to 1.5 hours
10 hour Petit LeMans condensed to 2 hours.

hate to say it, but I preferred Speed Channel on this one...

Apparently that info was sent to an incorrect email distribution list!
Follow-up is that the memo was intended for media and partners.

Going to be interesting for phone screeners -- since the call-in phone number was also published!

I know. I then got the email saying this is only for media. Just listened to Radio Lemans and John Hindaugh (who was initially in on the conference call) who said there is supposed to be an audio file on the alms website replaying the call but I can't find it.

Default SOCIAL MEDIA... IT'S 2011

Not sure about the audio file, but ALMS will post a 'FAQ' document later this evening.

BRIEF SNIPPETS:

While admiting a mixed fan response (65m households that get SPEED; 65m households that get ESPN3.com and that is growing exponentially)...Atherton likened it to when the ALMS introduced EtOH fuel --

'Just like when we introduced ethanol, we were an easy target. Now every other series has introduced green technology.

Deal gives us foothold in all ESPN properties - SportsCenter and other ESPN digital services'

Besser: Only way to do this right for the ALMS was to create integrated media approach - ABC, ESPN2 and ESPN3.com. Also ESPN International

Thor offered that Social Media will be a huge push. Will work with ESPN to significantly increase Social Media content in many ways.

Atherton said Canada will have access to broadcast. Several different means to enable it - both on TV and ALMS.com.
He further stated that radio will continue in 2011. Expecting to continue on Sirius and XM.'

~~~~~
Essence -- the ALMS Series enters deeper into the social media world.
Remember -- you can still do it the 'old fashioned way' -- attend and see it all 'live!'
