I've used this in karting applications for the kid and I have an extra one not on a kart. Anyone ever use this system in a car? Can you? ltc?

Itc would certainly be the resident expert. I think you still need a beacon, my son had the same one on his kart but that was a couple of years ago.

Some people do it. As you know you are limited by the inputs but fundamentally the data that comes off a kart is the same as the car.

Yes.
Use a mychron gps, thus eliminating the IR beacon.
Use an expansion box if you want more inputs.

My son used a Mychron 4 2T ( cylinder head/water and exhaust temp ) and a GPS, no expansion box nor IR pickup needed...cleaner setup for fast panic damage rebuilds after a wreck.

Race studio doesn't care nor know the difference.
