In the market for a new suit wondered if anyone knows if there are plans to update suit requirements similar to what's currently taking place with helmet specs?
Helmets specs are moving to SAH2010/FIA8860-2010 if I've got my information correct while current suits all seem to use FIA 3.2A/FIA 8856-2000 ratings.
Trying to avoid dropping a bunch of coin on a new suit that will soon be outdated.
Thanks.

The FIA specs update at random intervals. The previous FIA update prior to the 2000 update was in 1986.
The previous helmet update was more recent than that.
And even if you do drop the money on the suit you'll be just fine for a long time. Only in the last couple years has the 1986 standard been ruled out by most organizations.

I have seen a few suits at vintage races that could have been as old as I am
Like Joe said, the current suits out there will be good for years as long as you take care of them. Take it off if you are going to work on your car at the track and wash them regularly.

Mark or Joe - How does ISO 6940 compare with PCA club racing rules update requiring gloves and shoes to be SFI 3.3/5 or FIA 8856-2000? I just checked and my oldest pair of gloves (6+ yrs old) are SFI 3.3/5 and my newest pair are ISO 6940 (3+ yrs old).

Nizer, what brands are you looking at. I also am in the market for a suit for next year and have not the foggiest idea of what to buy. Timely thread for the both of us!

Not 100% on pca rules off the top of my head. If it doesn't have the iso standard listed I think you won't be able to run the iso gloves.

This is a timely thread indeed. PCA 2011 rules changes include:
Drivers’ suits will have to meet either SFI 3.2A/5 or FIA 8856-2000
and
Drivers’ gloves and shoes will have to meet SFI 3.3/5 or FIA 8856-2000
Rule changes in the pdf on PCA website (link?):
https://www.pca.org/LinkClick.aspx?f...U%3d&tabid=110
I have one suit and one pair of gloves that will now retire from in-car use.

Joe: Thanks. Guess I have a few additional items to add to the Christmas list.

Interesting that they are requiring SFI Gloves...that rules out all the high end reverse stitch gloves. Must have went to a cheaper insurance company that requires SFI Gloves...I know Lemons and some other smaller series are also requiring SFI gloves, which is odd since GrandAm/ALMS/WC don't even require them.

From the glove section:
"or FIA 8856-2000".
So, not just SFI. Now, if memory is serving me correctly, at least the updated Stand 21 outside seam gloves have the FIA 8856-2000 rating (I know that the originals do not, which will prompt an update for me as well).
