Tentative 2011 PCA Club Racing Schedule
My big question for 2011 is will there be a club race at Barber this year? And does PCA national have much to do with the "coordination" of club races or just posting the dates on the website? The calendar really gets loaded up in the first half of the year and we all are twiddling our thumbs come the nice weather of fall and early winter. I assume there is a lot of tradition with the timing of a lot of club races but some need to take better advantage of weather and local. i.e. overlapping Eagles Canyon at the end of May with Watkins Glen - its 110 in Dallas end of May, if you want a 3 day weekend try Fri - Sun of Thanksgiving.

To answer your question about Barber...probably not. it got cancelled because the VIR race was moved and became a conflict with the weekend that Alabama Region had for Barber. With no available weekends that don't conflict with other races, they decided that they will most likely never hold it again.
Getting track time in general is difficult, most people don't understand that we can't just 'pick a weekend' and have a race. The tracks are booked all the time, and incumbent groups get to keep their same weekend each year. Moving and/or getting a 'good' weekend is tough - mostly because those are obviously already taken.

OK, I'll post what I said last year.
First, the PCA national committee doesn't schedule any races. Rather, a region or zone hosts the race with the national commitee providing operational staffing and assistance with registration. Accordingly, if you want to have a race at a specific track, try to convince the local region's board that a club race would be a good thing.
Second, PCA, is relatively far down the list in terms of assignments for track days, well behind ALMS, Grand Am and the various vintage groups, as those all are spectator events that pay the bills for the tracks. In addition, certain other groups have set traditional dates. Plus, since 2011 will be the 20th year of PCA club racing, there are a certain number of races that have essentially "traditional" dates and moving one race date causes problems for other races.
There is some discussion about moving the Eagles Canyon race date to late October, stay tuned on that one.
For those of you on the East Coast, perhaps you can journey into the Midwest to attend a race at a track you haven't been to. MidOHio is a wonderful venue, Putnam and Gingerman in July are fun and my personal favorite is Brainerd in early August.
The Daytona race should be great, with PCA returning for another year on a freshly repaved track. Stay tuned for more races as regions confirm their dates to Susan Shire.

The 944 Cup raced at Tremblant this year and will being going back again next year for the Fall Classic. If there is a group of Porsche drivers that are interested in joining us, we may be able to arrange for a Porsche only race run group.
Just throwin' it out there.
