Jay
My truck is very similar to the other Brian.....the only difference is mine is a 2WD, extended cab...so its a bit lighter and raises the towing to 9,700lbs. Same HD trailering package and 3.42 rear end with the 5.3L engine & 6 speed automatic...14.5mpg towng at 70mph is pretty good...since my truck is reading about 19mpg empty at that speed....

The 6.2L engine is available and you gain at most 1,000lbs more towing..BUT it is recommended to use premium fuel with the 6.2L & they are far more rare....I couldn't find any 2010's with the 6.2L...only the 5.3... I also read a road test where the 5.3L averaged 15.5mpg...the 2500 6.0L got 13.5mpg and the 1500 6.2L got 12.5....

My 5.3L truck is WAY too quiet...I am dumping the stock muffler tomorrow for a magnaflow in the stock location...should improve sound a bunch and gain a few HP too

Sorry for the crappy Iphone pic...plus the truck is dirty too

I HATE my 2008 6L 2500 HD. I've been looking to trade it for a new truck for about a month. The 6 speed transmission sucks. Its constantly searching for a gear and it has a terrible habit of up shifting when it should be down shifting. I swore off Chevys after my last truck was in the shop more then I drove it. I bitched so much that they gave me a $5000 check towards a new. I should have wiped my *** with the check and gone right to the Ford dealership. F250 diesel is the only way to go unless you want to spend big bucks and get a GMC Duramax with the Allison trans.

Yep, the Duramax/Allison combo is the best out there regardless of make IMO.. not cheap though there are deals out there. See ya at Summit Tim, and for once I won't be in the tower swatting stink-bugs!

This forum has been funny, I came in thinking I need a HD Diesel extended cab and now I have been talked down to a 1500/F150 with the trailer package and a crew cab. God I love Rennlist!!!! Thanks for the help.

Jay if you plan on just hauling stuff around and tow a car on an open trailer at 1500/150 is perfect.

If you plan on towing a 24ft enclosed with lots of crap the go 2500 gas or diesel. The problem comes when so guy wants to pull at 28 ft toy hauler with 4 people and bed full of crap in a F150 or Tundra with 10k limit. The trailer is 10k (probably 11k) and they have 1500lbs of people and crap in the truck.
That just won't do well.

Half ton trucks work great if you understand their limitations and will abide by them.

I pull this with a Toyota Tacoma:

Since I took this pic, I've added a rear leaf spring for a heavier capacity.
It's worked just fine... so far!

for this specific trailer - what is total weight to tow and how much pressure goes on a tow mount?

My truck's rated: 500lb tongue and 5000lb tow.

Trailex trailer is ~1000lbs and my Porsche ~3000lbs

^ + 1 ... and Saint Bernard hauler as well.

My bride was told to get any car she wanted...she picked a 2005 Excursion to replace her 2000 Excursion.
Now that they're no longer in production, she plans on keeping the Excursion forever, since there is nothing else to replace it with.

i dont know....
you can tow anything with anything, really. i think my accord and tow boeing 747. if you have a 747, i will give it a try.

but after trying it my self, LTC is on to something. get the fk'g biggest baddest tow vehicle you can imagine and double it, then you be just fine. really.
