Couldn't agree with you guys more; just love both circuits, not to mention all the facilities and amenities. Been a long time coming for us NE types.....
T-bolt is the bigger track, and where all of the pro racing and TV events will occur. Lightning is like a club circuit. Both seem modern and safe. Lightning to me is like a slightly longer Lime Rock, with great rhythm and flow. T-bolt is becoming an absolute favorite.
From: Trying to be the driver my car wants me to be
Weren't there rumors in the beginning that the two tracks were going to be connected? I wonder how that would have been to run?
In any event, it is great for me to have these two tracks in a little over two hours from home! I haven't been to NJMP much this year as I have been trying to hit Monticello as much as possible for fear access might truly be limited in the future. Who knows how that will really turn out, but I'm making hay while the sun is shining (I'll be at MMC tomorrow as a matter of fact).
The original track diagrams had one big long road course, proposed as the longest in the country, even comparing it to Road America. As the plan came to fruition they broke it in two, the economics of being able to run separate events simultaneously took precedence. You can see both current layouts in the original depiction, but they also clearly stated that there would be no chance of ever joining them back together.
I like the NJMP tracks a lot, and find them fun both as a driver and instructor.
But, I also have a "dirty secret"--well, maybe a clean secret--that I really like at NJMP. They have comfortable showers. Sure helped after a couple of those 107 degree days this summer.
We are corporate members at NJMP at could not be happier. It's been a dream come true for a South Jersey native that has always been drawn to road racing.
Now I get paid to go there which is genearlly about 4-5 times per month.
