Default "Old" Hoosier R6's

Sorry if this has been beaten to death....I have a set of R6's put into service in March of 08. They still look good, plenty of rubber & still pretty soft. Stored inside, off car, no air. Got a set of BFG R1's but they rub a little. I'm thinking about going back to the Hoosiers despite their age at a coming DE. Have approximately 8 DE weekends over the 2.5 years on the tires. Lost count of cycles. Lemming sold me a set of wheels for them that allow me to move them around to even wear. Is this a dumb move using them again?

They are fine for DE driving if they have rubber on them. Just take it easy the first session. They might be cycled out - you'll know pretty quickly. But, ~64 HCs on the Hoo-Hoos? [8 weekends X 2 days/weekend X 4 sessions/day]?!? That's just crazy! I wish I could get 1/2 that...

Obviously you're not going fast enough, if you can get that many heat cycles.

I'd burn 'em till they almost cord. That's what we do currently. We are currently running tires from late '08...

If you were driving them flat out they are probably ok.

I get the team turtle award each season from Peachstate for being slow, but consistent.........flat out scares me to death.

I would add to flip them on the rims if one edge gets more wear than the other. I do that and get almost twice the life out of a set as mine wear substantially more on the inside (IIRC)..

Lemming taught me the trick to use all the same size tires & wheels so I can do an old fashioned rotate. That maybe why they held up so well other than me being slo......

Never a bad idea but if one edge is wearing, say all inside, you need to flip them to get the most out of them.

1+ on flipping the tires!
I run same size all around and can double the life...
I do mark the rotation and run them in the same direction but know others that run them backwards with NO adverse resutls...

I have used and like the Formula V Traction Treatment, albeit that I never got going on smearing the Hoo-hoo's with sufficient anticipation to get a full weekend's worth of tire softening going (they'd be back to the old level of (much lower) grip after 3-4 sessions), so I am trying a home brew for tomorrow:
1/3 ATF, 1/3 acetone and 1/3 mineral spirits.

I did a final coating last night and wrapped them in cellophane. Hope they haven't melted by the time I get to TWS.

Will report back.
