Default Momo mod 78 wheel grip??s

I just bought a mod 78 wheel for my 944. It is MILES better than the stock wheel. Very comfortable shape for my hands, and the 330mm diameter really makes my car feel light and easy to toss around. I do have one problem though. I guess I didn't read the description well enough, but I expected the leather to be suede. The leather is stretched so tightly, and is so smooth, that my hands get tired from having to hold it so tightly that the wheel doesn't slide in my hands.

So my question is, does anyone know of a way to roughen the leather? I was thinking of sanding it with some rough paper to "fluff" up the leather so it feels more like suede..... but then I thought I'd better ask around before I go and ruin my new wheel

Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated. Also, I don't want to wear gloves, as this car is also my DD...

Thanks!
