Default German GP- off track at start

Since the team orders are dying down and the Alonso pass of Kubica with 4 wheels off is still fairly fresh, I wondered what people thought of the start of the German GP?
It seemed that several drivers were completely off the track in the 1st corner, starting with Massa.
Should you be able to go off track to maintain your position?
You are not allowed to gain a position when you go 4 wheels off?

Does anyone have video of the start to review to see how many were off track in the first corner?

In every racing series I have seen a little more lattitude is given on race starts with respect for 4 wheels off. This due to cars being bunched up and it is easy to be "forced" off track.

That said I know guys did go 4 off on the outside of turn 1, but I can't remember the details.

Vettel should have been given a drive thru for such a dirty start IMO....

If they knew there was a penalty, they'd behave differently. Think St. Devote at the start of every Monaco GP. Walls are also an effective deterrent.............. On the other hand, the risk of Lap 1 Turn 1 carnage approaches zero when you have that kind of paved runoff.

How was it dirty? He moved over as allowed in the rules. The move didnt even work for him and no one but himself suffered ill effects. Or is this a screw everyone but Alonso thing?

It was just a stupid move on Vettel's part, shot himself in the foot. You'd think he would start to learn after the string of bonehead moves he's made lately. I'm surprised his bosses aren't reining him in.

It would have also appeared that the Ferrari cars both had better traction/acceleration off the start.

It must have been human error on Vettel's part (although he did mention his poor start and seemed puzzled and wanted to talk to the team) since we all know launch/traction control has been banned by the FIA.
