Briatore tips Webber for title

By Steven English and Michele Lostia Wednesday, August 4th 2010, 14:26 GMT

Flavio Briatore believes Mark Webber will win this year's world championship, following his victory in Hungary on Sunday.

The former Benetton and Renault team boss, who is Webber's manager, says the Australian has upped his game this season and can fight off the challenger of team-mate Sebastian Vettel, and the McLarens and Ferraris.

"Watch out, Webber is on his way to win the title: what he has done in Hungary on Sunday was phenomenal," Briatore told Gazzetta dello Sport. "But I'm not tipping Webber just because he is one of my drivers, I only state what everyone has seen from home.

"Mark is a driver capable of exceptional feats. He has now reached a maturity and inner calmness that can take him really far. In Hungary he was the first one understanding that he could take a risk in running for three-quarter distance on the soft tyres he had at the start. That was the winning move, but it also demonstrated how much he uses his brain, unlike many others."

Webber's victory lifted him back into the championship lead, but just 20 points cover from his lead to Fernando Alonso in fifth place.

If RB wants this they will have to go with Webbo.............

Petey's report ....So nice, i gotta play it twice ..............

Yours truly would have eaten crow if he would have delivered to the Scuderia as was promised, but so far, Alonso has overpromised, underdelivered and continues to be the most overrated driver in Formula 1 today based on expectations and salary, costing both himself and his team valuable championship points (ie WCC revenue points). With Massa having suffered a near career ending head injury, it's amazing he is in an F1 car at all, but he is but a shadow of his former self and just having signed a 2 year extension, Alonso gets another weak teammate that will not challenge his #1 status within the team.

Mercedes GP: A team that probably thought it would be easier going having bought the winning team from 2009, but that car in 2009 was fading badly toward the end. Mercedes headquarters is unwilling to spend the Euros necessary to properly compete at the sharp end of the grid and it is a mystery how commited they are to the F1 program in general. Rosberg was in 7th place in points until yesterday and Schumacher is in 9th. Rosberg has done a great job with that car and coming off a 3 year retirement, Schmacher has shown brillance and sometimes old age depending on the race weekend after such a long layoff and a vast change in the "Formula" of the cars since he last raced. ....

Wasn't Alonso just voted best driver in F1 .... Yeah Petey .. Go .............
